Celebrities Reveal Ozempic Side Effects as Simulations Show Its Impact on the Body

Ozempic has become a buzzword in recent years, rapidly rising to prominence as a weight loss aid. But while its popularity grows, misconceptions about what the drug actually is—and what it does—are just as widespread.

Though often touted as a quick fix for shedding pounds, Ozempic was originally developed to treat Type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. Its active ingredient, semaglutide, is a synthetic version of a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. It works by boosting insulin production, reducing the amount of glucose the liver produces, and slowing digestion—making users feel fuller for longer, which can lead to reduced appetite and, eventually, weight loss.

Despite its reputation, Ozempic is not officially approved as a weight loss drug. In the U.S., the FDA has not approved it for this purpose, and in the UK, the NHS doesn’t prescribe it for weight loss either. Instead, medications like Wegovy—which contains the same active ingredient—and soon Mounjaro, are being used or developed specifically for weight management.

Which Celebrities Have Used Ozempic?

A growing list of celebrities has admitted to using Ozempic, often with mixed experiences.

  • Jeremy Clarkson shared that Ozempic made him feel extremely nauseous and frequently sick, eventually prompting him to stop taking it after six months. He later switched to Mounjaro, which he found more tolerable.

  • James Corden also tried Ozempic but said it “didn’t really work” for him. While it suppressed his appetite, he realized that his eating habits weren’t driven by hunger.

  • Amy Schumer revealed she became “bedridden” after using the drug and has since moved to Mounjaro as well, calling the switch “great.”

  • In contrast, Sharon Osbourne experienced significant weight loss with Ozempic and voluntarily stopped using it once she felt she had lost enough.

What Are the Side Effects of Ozempic?

Like any medication, Ozempic comes with potential side effects. The most commonly reported issues include:

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Fatigue

  • Rapid weight loss, which can lead to other physical complications if not properly managed

As celebrity experiences have shown, Ozempic isn’t suitable for everyone, and individual reactions vary widely. While some find success with the drug, others struggle with its side effects and opt for alternatives.

As the weight loss drug market evolves, options like Wegovy and Mounjaro are becoming more accessible, and understanding the intended use—and limitations—of each medication is essential for safe and effective treatment.
