After landing steady work on Everwood, he earned enough money to buy his mother a house.
That was the milestone.
Entertainment Weekly reported Pratt recalling that purchase as the moment he felt he had “made it.”
The significance is obvious.
The young man who grew up in a working-class household could now provide something substantial for the woman who raised him.
The Maui experiment had begun as an escape from conventional responsibility.
His acting career eventually gave him the means to take on responsibility in a completely different way.
What If He Hadn't Said Anything?
This is the irresistible question at the center of Chris Pratt's origin story.
What if he had simply brought Rae Dawn Chong her meal?
What if he had recognized her and stayed quiet?

The commercial scale of his career would have been almost impossible for the young Maui waiter to imagine.
Published celebrity net-worth estimates often place his fortune around $100 million, but those figures are outside estimates rather than audited disclosures from Pratt himself and should not be treated as established financial fact.
The larger point does not require a precise number.
Chris Pratt became extraordinarily successful.
And the distance between his circumstances then and now is enormous.
Chance Opens Doors — People Still Have to Walk Through Them
It would be easy to interpret Pratt's story as proof that success is simply a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
That would be incomplete.
