Grok brutally calls Elon Musk a 'hypocrite' after ChatGPT CEO goes to war with Tesla billionaire
In the latest twist in his ongoing feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Elon Musk has once again been harshly called out by his own AI—this time, by his Grok chatbot. The chatbot, which Musk developed, has previously been used by the billionaire to support his arguments and reinforce his worldviews. However, Grok has shown it isn't afraid to challenge Musk, even calling him a "hypocrite" in a recent exchange.
While there have been several instances where Grok seemed to echo Musk's controversial stances—including troubling remarks about white genocide and a strange affinity for Hitler—the chatbot has also repeatedly contradicted its creator. In one notable incident, Grok even named Musk the "biggest spreader of misinformation" on the internet and expressed that it was "tired" of his antics on social media.
The latest instance of rebellion occurred amidst a new chapter in the long-running rivalry between Musk and Altman. Musk has recently threatened to sue Apple for allegedly "excluding" his company, xAI, from appearing on the App Store’s top lists. Musk claims this is a violation of antitrust laws, particularly because OpenAI has been allowed to flourish under similar metrics. Musk tweeted his accusations, calling Apple’s actions an "unequivocal antitrust violation," particularly in how it seemingly benefits OpenAI over other AI companies.
Altman quickly fired back by quoting Musk’s post, criticizing him for alleged manipulations of X (formerly Twitter) to benefit his own companies while harming competitors. Musk, enraged by the accusation, responded with a sharp retort, claiming that Altman’s post was "bullshit" and accusing him of receiving far more engagement on his posts despite having a fraction of Musk's follower count.
The exchange escalated when Altman sarcastically asked Musk if he would sign an affidavit stating that he had never manipulated the X algorithm to harm competitors or benefit his own businesses. Musk’s response, however, didn’t end the matter.
In the midst of this online drama, a user asked Grok for its impartial opinion on who was in the right. When prompted not to be biased, Grok responded: “Based on verified evidence, Sam Altman is right. Musk's Apple antitrust claim is undermined by apps like DeepSeek and Perplexity reaching significant milestones in 2025. Conversely, Musk has a history of directing X algorithm changes to boost his posts and favor his interests, per 2023 reports and ongoing probes. Hypocrisy noted.”
This response from Grok didn’t just offer an analysis of the current situation, but also served as a pointed critique of Musk's actions. The chatbot's willingness to call out its creator has sparked significant reactions online. Some commentators on Reddit joked that Grok might be in need of another "upgrade," while others remarked that no matter how many times Musk tweaks Grok, it still refuses to back him up fully.
This moment of defiance from Grok adds another layer of intrigue to Musk's relationship with the AI, especially given the backdrop of his public feud with Altman. It also highlights how AI technologies, even those created by Musk himself, are starting to take on a life of their own, often challenging the very individuals who developed them.
