I’m A Celebrity star Aitch reveals emotional reason behind signing up for the show: ‘Her disability is a blessing’
Aitch Joins I’m A Celebrity to Champion Down Syndrome Awareness
Rapper Aitch is heading into the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! jungle this Sunday (November 16), and he has revealed that one of his driving motivations for signing up is deeply rooted in family. The 25-year-old star says he wants to use his time in the Australian camp to raise awareness for Down’s syndrome, inspired by his younger sister Gracie, who has the condition (Source: Yahoo News UK, Entertainment Daily).
A Personal Mission Close to Home
Aitch, whose real name is Harrison James Armstrong, is an official ambassador for the Down’s Syndrome Association, and his commitment to the cause goes back several years. In interviews, he has often spoken about the close bond he shares with Gracie (Source: ITV News). He says that being part of I’m A Celebrity gives him a unique platform to highlight how Down’s syndrome affects not just people with the condition, but also their families and support networks (Source: BritBrief).
He has been publicly critical of abortion laws related to Down’s syndrome, especially the fact that in some cases, women can choose to terminate a pregnancy very late if the baby is expected to have the condition. “You can be a day before giving birth … and still have the option to terminate it,” Aitch told The Sun. He added, “I feel like there are certain times … I could be selfish about it. My sister is good and she always will be — that is my main concern. But … I don’t want anyone to be disheartened if they do find out someone in the family has Down’s Syndrome” (Source: Entertainment Daily).
Calling Gracie’s Disability a “Blessing”
Aitch has spoken movingly about how he views his sister’s condition not as a challenge, but as a profound gift. He said he feels that anyone who spends time with someone with Down’s syndrome is “going to have the best time of their life.” For him, Gracie’s disability is “a blessing,” and he hopes his appearance on the show will challenge stereotypes and bring more compassion and understanding (Source: Entertainment Daily).
Preparing for the Jungle — and His Campmates
While Aitch’s motivation is serious, he also revealed a more lighthearted concern: he snores, and some of his jungle campmates might not be thrilled about it. He joked that he’s an “on-and-off” snorer, but that on his flight to Australia, he managed to avoid making a sound. He’s hopeful that this might be the beginning of a new chapter — though only time in the camp will tell (Source: TV Guide).
Advocacy Through Music and Action
Aitch’s activism is not new. He dedicated his song “My G”, featuring Ed Sheeran, to Gracie — and even donated part of the music video budget to the Down’s Syndrome Association. (Source: ITV News) He has also taken on bold awareness-raising challenges: in April 2023, he completed a 15,000-foot skydive to mark World Down’s Syndrome Day, alongside his father and supporters. This act was both emotional and symbolic, underlining his long-term commitment to the cause (Source: The Guardian).
In addition, Aitch made a major donation to the charity: he gave £10,000 from his music video budget to the Down’s Syndrome Association. (Source: Bang Premier)
Looking Forward to Making an Impact
By entering I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, Aitch hopes to reach a broad audience and spark meaningful conversations about Down’s syndrome. He wants to help reshape perceptions, reduce stigma, and show that people with Down’s — and their families — deserve visibility, respect, and inclusion. As he makes his way into the jungle, it's clear that his mission goes beyond entertainment — it’s personal, powerful, and full of purpose.
