JD Vance, the Antichrist and the End Times: What He Actually Said—and Why It Matters
A viral social media graphic claims that Vice President JD Vance believes “the Antichrist” may be “walking among us.” It is the kind of headline almost designed to trigger an immediate reaction. Some readers may see it as evidence that apocalyptic religion has entered the highest levels of American government. Others may interpret it as an ordinary expression of Christian belief being sensationalized for clicks.
The underlying quotation is real, but the wording needs context.
During a wide-ranging interview with Christian podcaster Bryce Crawford, Vance did not announce that he had identified the Antichrist or claim to possess secret knowledge about the end of the world. He said there are things about the present world that would leave him “not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us.”
That difference matters.
“I believe the Antichrist is walking among us” is a definite assertion. “I would not be shocked if…” is speculation about what might be possible within Vance’s religious worldview. The viral graphic turns that conditional statement into something closer to a declaration.
Even so, Vance’s actual remarks were extraordinary enough. A sitting American vice president openly discussed the possibility of the Antichrist, the arrival of the “end times,” spiritual darkness among world leaders and supposedly satanic aspects of artificial intelligence. Those comments deserve attention—not because they prove an imminent apocalypse, but because they reveal how Vance interprets technology, power and political responsibility through a deeply religious framework.
What Vance Said in the Podcast
Vance made the remarks during an appearance on The Bryce Crawford Podcast. Crawford is a young evangelical Christian interviewer whose program regularly explores faith, evangelism, culture and politics.
The conversation coincided with Vance promoting Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith, his account of returning to Christianity and converting to Catholicism. Consequently, the interview concentrated far more heavily on theology and personal belief than a conventional political appearance would.
When Crawford asked whether humanity could be living in the “end times,” Vance said he did not know.
He added that concentrating too heavily on apocalyptic prediction could be harmful. His stated approach was to do as much of what he considers God’s work as possible, whether the end comes within months or remains thousands of years away.
Vance then made the comment that generated the viral headlines: certain things about the state of the world, he said, would leave him unsurprised if the Antichrist were already walking among humanity.

Vance did not identify any person as the Antichrist. He did not say he had received a prophecy, and he did not predict a date for the world’s end. He repeatedly acknowledged uncertainty.
The responsible conclusion is therefore straightforward: The viral post is based on a genuine statement, but “Vance says he believes” is somewhat stronger than what he actually said.
His Comments Were Part of a Larger Spiritual Argument
The discussion did not end with one remark about the Antichrist. Vance connected his concern about the spiritual condition of modern life with artificial intelligence and the replacement of human relationships by machines.
He offered the example of a person using an AI chatbot for marriage counseling. Vance characterized the idea as “kind of satanic,” arguing that removing human beings from forms of social and moral guidance can undermine the way people were created to live.
He also referred to what he described as “weird spiritual dark energy” surrounding certain practices in the AI industry. One example involved enthusiasts holding what resembled a funeral or burial ceremony for a retired AI model.
