Meghan Trainor has spoken out strongly against criticism surrounding her recent weight loss, offering new insight into why she chose to begin taking the medication Mounjaro and how it helped her regain confidence after years of physical and emotional challenges.
The All About That Bass singer, now 31, has been the subject of intense public discussion following her noticeable transformation — particularly after she debuted her new look at a television premiere with her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, back in August. Trainor has since opened up more deeply about the journey that brought her here, explaining that her decision was rooted in postpartum struggles, health concerns, and a desire to become the strongest version of herself for her two young children.
Recovering from pregnancy, surgery, and body image struggles
Trainor has been candid about the toll her two pregnancies took on her body. After undergoing two caesarean sections and experiencing significant weight fluctuations, she said she reached a breaking point emotionally. “I hated what I had,” she admitted in a recent video shared with fans. Seeing her reflection had become difficult, and she felt unlike herself.
Determined to make a change, she adopted a structured fitness routine with a personal trainer, adjusted her eating habits, and consulted her doctors about medical options. One of those options was the GLP-1 injectable tirzepatide — widely known by the brand name Mounjaro — which she says helped her feel secure and supported as she worked to rebuild her strength.
“I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy,” she told followers online. She added that along with lifestyle changes, she also underwent a breast lift and implants to feel more comfortable in her skin. “I’m so glad I did, because I feel great.”
Her trainer later shared before-and-after updates showing the extent of her transformation, emphasizing that the singer had been incredibly disciplined and motivated.

Facing backlash despite feeling healthier than ever
But Trainor says feeling good hasn’t protected her from negativity. In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, she revealed that achieving her healthiest and happiest state has ironically opened the door to fresh waves of criticism.
“For the first time ever, after having babies, I’m taking care of my health to the highest level,” she said. “I’ve never felt better — and I look incredible, I feel great. And that’s when people attack me.”
She added that she’s had to learn how to emotionally distance herself from online negativity, particularly from commenters who questioned her use of Mounjaro. Her openness about taking the medication led to backlash from people accusing her of being “too thin” or “unrecognisable.”
Speaking to People, Trainor revealed that her social media — once a “friendly, happy, mom-loving place” — took a “dark turn.”
“People said I was too skinny or that I didn’t look like myself anymore,” she recalled. “I’ve been so focused on my health and fitness that I’ve never felt better. So I was confused and sad — it felt almost worse now. I don’t know what happened.”

Turning criticism into empowerment
Despite the negativity, Trainor says she’s channeling her emotions into her music — particularly her lead single, Still Don’t Care, from her forthcoming album Toy With Me. The title, she says, reflects exactly how she plans to respond to the noise.
“When I start singing it, it’ll be my therapy,” she said. “My exposure therapy. It’s how I remind myself to keep going.”
Trainor emphasised that the journey was for herself — and her children — and that she has no intention of letting critics undermine her progress.
