Michalinka’s Fight for Life: A Tiny Warrior Who Won’t Give Up
At just 25 weeks of pregnancy, I gave birth to twins—two tiny, fragile lives who entered the world far too soon, each struggling to take their very first breaths. Both of my daughters were born with extreme hypotrophy—delicate, underdeveloped, and in critical condition. Immediately after birth, they were placed in incubators and connected to life-support machines. Those first hours, those first days, were filled with fear, uncertainty, and a desperate hope that they would survive.
Tragically, our firstborn daughter, Kornelia, lost her battle after just five precious days. Her loss was a pain deeper than words can express—a sorrow etched forever in our hearts. But her sister, Michalinka—our brave, resilient “Misia”—continues to fight. Day by day, she grows stronger, defying the odds with every breath she takes. Her journey has been nothing short of miraculous.
Michalinka’s early life was a storm of medical crises, each one a test of her strength and will to live. Her tiny body endured more than most adults ever will. She underwent multiple complex surgeries, including heart surgery, treatment for umbilical and bilateral inguinal hernias, and several eye operations. She bravely fought off life-threatening conditions such as necrotizing enterocolitis, first- and second-degree brain hemorrhages, cytomegalovirus, sepsis, and aggressive staph infections. She received multiple blood transfusions—each one a lifeline that kept her tiny heart beating.
For more than five months, Michalinka depended on a respirator to keep her alive. The prolonged use caused damage to her delicate lungs, yet it was the only way she could continue to breathe. Every single breath was a triumph, every heartbeat a testament to her spirit. Through the tubes and wires, through the sterile hospital walls, she showed us what true determination looks like.
Today, Michalinka is still fighting—but now she’s no longer alone in her battle. Her strength is matched by our unyielding commitment as parents to give her every chance at life. She requires continuous care from a dedicated team of private specialists: a neurologist, physiotherapist, osteopath, and pulmonologist. These experts work hand-in-hand with National Health Fund providers and hospice services to support her journey toward better health.
Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in her progress. Regular physiotherapy sessions help her build muscle tone, improve motor coordination, and develop basic functional skills that most children acquire naturally. She works hard every day to move, to play, to explore—a child rediscovering her world one small step at a time.
Additionally, Michalinka needs a medical-grade oxygen concentrator to assist her during daily activities. Whether it’s a walk in the park, a car ride, or simply enjoying time outside, this machine gives her the freedom to breathe, move, and participate in life more fully. What may seem like a simple device is, to her, a key to independence and normalcy.
Despite everything, Michalinka is an incredibly lively, joyful, and curious little girl. Her eyes sparkle with curiosity, and her laughter fills our home with light. Every day, she shows us that she wants to grow, learn, and engage with the world around her. The potential within her is limitless—but to reach it, she needs consistent therapy, specialized equipment, and access to medical expertise.
We, as her parents, have devoted ourselves completely to her care. We’ve spent countless hours in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and consultations. We celebrate every small milestone, whether it’s a movement, a word, or a smile. Each sign of progress renews our hope and strengthens our resolve. But the emotional, physical, and financial toll is immense—and we know we cannot do this alone.
This is why we have started a fundraiser. We are reaching out to the kindness and compassion of others—friends, strangers, and anyone who believes in giving a child a chance. Every donation, no matter the amount, will directly impact Michalinka’s quality of life. It will help fund rehabilitation sessions, acquire medical equipment, and ensure access to the specialists she desperately needs.
Through your support, we can offer Michalinka more than just survival—we can give her the opportunity to thrive. Your generosity could be the reason she walks independently, goes to school, plays with friends, or simply experiences the joy of being a child.
Michalinka’s story is one of courage, resilience, and the power of hope. She has already endured more than most of us can imagine, yet she continues to shine with strength and determination. She is our tiny warrior, our inspiration, and our reason to believe in miracles.
Every contribution matters. Every share of this story spreads awareness. Every kind word reminds us that we are not alone. Together, we can help Michalinka grow into the strong, joyful girl she is meant to be.
Please consider joining us on this journey. Your support will bring real, tangible change to Michalinka’s life. Help us give her the tools she needs to overcome her challenges and build a future filled with possibility, love, and hope.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.
