Shade Was Missing for 27 Hours
Another rescue received coverage from CBS News Philadelphia in February 2025.
This time, the missing animal was a puppy named Shade in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
Shade's owner, Gina Manfredi, was walking him when a noise frightened the puppy and he ran away.
The disappearance was particularly emotional for Manfredi because she had gotten Shade after losing another beloved dog of 14 years.
Hours passed.
Then an entire night.
By the time Parziale launched his drone, according to CBS Philadelphia, Shade had been missing for approximately 27 hours.
The search area was challenging.
There were woods nearby and a major highway, adding urgency to the effort.
Parziale took the drone into the air.
About 41 minutes later, he spotted Shade.
CBS captured Manfredi's reaction.
She screamed with relief when she learned her puppy had been located.
Parziale's drone also captured the moment Shade was finally reunited with his family.
After more than a day of uncertainty, the search was over.
Shade was hungry but, according to CBS, had escaped the ordeal without injuries.
For Parziale, seeing those moments has become one of the most rewarding parts of the work.
He told CBS that it is incredibly rewarding to see the joy of a reunion unfold through the drone's camera.
That emotion explains something statistics cannot.
"135 missing pets reunited" sounds impressive.
But every number represents a family.
When Snow Makes a White Dog Almost Invisible
Thermal technology can become especially useful when the landscape makes visual searching difficult.
In February 2026, a 15-pound white Cavachon named Jack disappeared in Millstone Township, New Jersey.
The environment could hardly have been worse.
According to News 12 New Jersey, Jack was missing in a rural, heavily wooded area covered with snow. Temperatures were dropping, and a winter storm was moving through the region.
Jack's white coat made him especially difficult to distinguish from the snow.
His owners searched as conditions worsened.
At around 8:30 p.m., a thermal drone was deployed.
The temperature had fallen to around 24 degrees Fahrenheit.
Despite Jack's natural camouflage, the drone detected him in just over 10 minutes, News 12 reported.
Finding him on the camera was not the end of the challenge.
Jack ran farther into the woods, and his owner ultimately had to make her way through deep snow to reach him.
But the drone had accomplished the critical first step.
It answered the question that causes so much anguish during a missing-pet search:
Where is he?
Once searchers knew that, they could concentrate their efforts.
Parziale described it as a time-critical rescue and told News 12 that his team's success rate is above 95% when searches for runaway pets begin within one to six hours.
