It was no longer an unfinished frame hidden away in a workshop.
It was moving.
Social media then carried the story far beyond his immediate community. Images and videos of the vehicle spread online, where viewers debated the construction, praised Eze's determination and encouraged him to continue developing his skills.
What began as a personal challenge became an example of grassroots technological creativity.
What “Built From Scratch” Really Means
Stories about homemade machines often use the phrase "built from scratch." But it is worth understanding what that means in this case.
It does not mean Eze personally manufactured every bearing, tyre, engine component, electrical wire, bolt and mechanical part from raw materials.
That would be an entirely different claim.
Even major automobile manufacturers rely on extensive networks of specialist suppliers for components.
The more meaningful description is that Eze designed, fabricated and assembled his own vehicle using a combination of locally sourced materials, handmade structures and existing or adapted mechanical components.
He created the project rather than buying a finished vehicle and merely changing its appearance.
That distinction actually makes the story stronger because it allows the achievement to stand on what can reasonably be documented rather than exaggerated claims.
Eze was learning fabrication and vehicle construction by doing it.
And the machine that emerged was sufficiently functional to drive.
The Bigger Nigerian Automotive Context
Eze's project is also interesting because it emerged in a country actively trying to develop more domestic automotive capability.
Nigeria has a large vehicle market but continues to depend heavily on imports.
The U.S. International Trade Administration's 2025 guide to Nigeria's automotive sector says the country remains heavily dependent on imported vehicles to satisfy demand. Imported used cars are particularly important because economic conditions and limited access to vehicle financing make them more affordable for many consumers.
At the same time, Nigeria has been trying to expand local automotive production and assembly.
The National Automotive Design and Development Council, or NADDC, is the federal body responsible for promoting development of the country's automotive industry. Its stated goals include supporting assembly plants, component manufacturers, skills development, research and greater local content.
The council's revised automotive development strategy includes targets for increased domestic vehicle production and greater use of locally produced components.
The official NADDC website says its strategy seeks, among other goals, to grow vehicle production to 200,000 units and raise local content in assembled vehicles to 40 percent.
Those national industrial ambitions are obviously on a completely different scale from one teenager's workshop project.
But Eze's story demonstrates another ingredient that industrial development requires: people who are interested in making things.
Factories need engineers.
They need technicians.
They need welders, designers, machinists, electricians, mechanics and entrepreneurs.
They also need young people who look at a complicated machine and think, "I want to understand how that works."
From Homemade Prototype to a Bigger Dream
Eze's ambitions apparently did not end when his G-Wagon-inspired prototype started moving.
In 2026, Africa.com and Global South World revisited his story and reported that he was thinking beyond the homemade vehicle that first brought him attention.
He said the "Homemade G-Wagon" name itself was temporary and expressed an ambition to develop something more original.
More significantly, his long-term goal was reported to be establishing an automobile manufacturing operation in Nigeria.
That is, of course, an enormous leap.
