Pouring soda water into the toilet has amazing benefits, not everyone knows

How Carbonated Soft Drinks Can Solve Many Household Problems

Carbonated soft drinks can surprisingly help you tackle a variety of household issues. Let’s explore the many practical uses of this common beverage.

Using Soft Drinks to Clean the Toilet

The toilet is an area that requires regular cleaning to remove harmful bacteria and unpleasant odors. While chemical cleaners are commonly used, you can also take advantage of items already available at home, which are often safer and eco-friendlier. One of the simplest solutions is to use soft drinks. Carbonated beverages contain carbonic acid and phosphoric acid, which help dissolve stains and eliminate odors on toilet surfaces.

You only need about one 330ml can of soft drink to clean a standard toilet. Unfinished soda or drinks past their expiration date can also be repurposed, making this method cost-effective.

How to use:

  1. Pour the soda slowly over the entire surface of the toilet bowl.

  2. To reach hard-to-clean corners, you can pour the soda into a spray bottle and spray it directly onto stains.

  3. Let the soda sit for about 1 hour. For stubborn yellow or tough stains, you can leave it overnight.

  4. Scrub the bowl with a toilet brush as usual and flush.

For better results, you can heat the soda slightly before pouring it into the toilet. Warm liquid increases its ability to break down stubborn grime and makes the cleaning process faster.

Other Household Uses of Soft Drinks

1. Removing Grease and Food Residue
Soda can be combined with dishwashing liquid to clean greasy dishes. Soak the dishes in carbonated water for 30 minutes before washing as usual.

For burnt pots or pans, pour soda into the cookware and let it soak for a few hours—or simmer it on the stove for a stronger effect. The soda helps loosen burnt food residue, making it easier to scrub away.

2. Removing Chewing Gum from Hair
If you accidentally get chewing gum stuck in your hair, don’t panic or try to pull it out immediately. Dip the affected area in carbonated water for a few minutes. The gum will soften and come off easily. This method can also be used on clothing, shoes, or other fabrics.

3. Cleaning Mirrors and Glass Surfaces
Soda has mild acidity that helps remove stains on glass surfaces. Pour soda into a spray bottle, spray on mirrors or windows, wait a few minutes, and then wipe with a clean cloth. Stubborn spots will be removed effortlessly.

4. Polishing Jewelry
Jewelry can become dull over time due to dirt or oxidation. Soak the pieces in a cup of soda overnight. The next day, use a soft brush or cotton swab to gently scrub them, rinse with clean water, and dry thoroughly. Your jewelry will regain its shine and look like new.

5. Keeping Flowers Fresh Longer
Soda contains nutrients that can help preserve flowers. Adding a small amount to the water in a vase can extend the life of cut flowers and maintain their freshness for several days.

6. Extra Tips for Household Convenience

  • Soda can also be used to clean drains by pouring it down sinks to help dissolve buildup.

  • Small spills or sticky residues on countertops can often be removed with a damp cloth and a little soda.

  • For outdoor furniture or patio cleaning, a mixture of soda and water can remove grime without harsh chemicals.

By repurposing leftover or expired soft drinks, you not only save money but also reduce waste, making it an environmentally friendly cleaning alternative.
