Why Are Homes in the US Not Designed with Bars and Fences Against Theft?
In Vietnam, it is common to see homes with high walls and iron bars on windows to prevent theft. On the other hand, in the United States, most homes are not designed with such security measures. Why is this the case?
-
Good Security in the US
While there are numerous reports labeling the United States as a "very dangerous country," the reality is that security in the US is generally very stable. Many households live peacefully without the need for iron bars or fences, and they are not concerned about theft. In the US, neighbors often see each other leaving their garage doors open without parking the car inside. Many people even forget to close their garage doors when rushing out, yet they don't worry about thieves.
-
Well-Established Insurance System
In the US, homeowners typically buy insurance for their homes. In the unfortunate event of a theft, the insurance company will compensate for the losses. -
Many Homes Have Alarm Systems
Thieves rarely visit low-income neighborhoods, and if they do, they usually target middle-class areas or higher. However, many middle-class households and beyond are equipped with alarm systems. In these homes, if someone attempts to break in, the alarm will sound and alert the police, providing a quick response. If the intruder doesn't know the code, the alarm will continue to sound until it automatically sends information to the police. -
Many Households Own Guns
The US is a country where guns are not banned, and many households own firearms. In many states, the law allows homeowners to use firearms if someone breaks into their home. Imagine a thief entering a house only to find themselves staring down the barrel of a gun as soon as they step through the door. Just imagining this scenario is enough to make anyone shudder. So, would anyone really risk their life to break into a home? -
Many Households Have Security Cameras
Even if thieves manage to get inside the house, their actions are likely to be recorded by security cameras. Many American families install cameras inside their homes, and even when the homeowners are away, they can monitor the situation via a mobile app at any time. If the house remains quiet, the app will notify the homeowners. Therefore, even if a thief manages to break in and escape, they are likely to be caught by the police soon after, as there is almost no risk of successfully escaping without being apprehended.
Additionally, the laws in the US are strict, and penalties for certain crimes are severe. With the well-established social welfare system, even if someone is unemployed, they can still live comfortably with the help of welfare, so there is no need for anyone to risk committing theft only to end up in prison.
