Five-Year-Old Boy Reports His Uncle to Police — Then Discovers His Uncle Is Also Five

In most families, a five-year-old complaining that another child pushed him would probably result in a parent, teacher, or another nearby adult stepping in.

But in Senador Canedo, a city in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, Brazil, one five-year-old boy decided to take the matter a little more seriously.

Instead of simply returning to the game or telling his mother, Gabriel Carvalho approached a military police officer and reported that he had been pushed.

The officer listened.

Then he asked the obvious question: Who had pushed him?

Gabriel pointed to his uncle.

That answer alone might not have seemed particularly unusual—until the officer went looking for the alleged culprit.

Standing in front of him was another five-year-old boy.

His name was Rafael Carvalho.

And, according to the boys' family, Rafael really was Gabriel's uncle.

The unusual encounter was recorded by Military Police soldier Guilherme Toledo while he was participating in a social project in Senador Canedo. The footage later circulated on social media and attracted widespread attention because of the extraordinary family relationship and the surprisingly serious way the young Gabriel approached his complaint. What began as a tiny disagreement between two children eventually became a playful lesson in communication, accountability and making peace.

And the strangest part of the story was not that a five-year-old had reported being pushed.

It was that the person he was reporting was his uncle—and that his uncle was exactly the same age.

A Very Serious Complaint From a Very Small Citizen

The incident reportedly happened during a social activity in Senador Canedo.

Gabriel approached soldier Guilherme Toledo and explained that his uncle had pushed him while they were taking part in the children's activity.

For Gabriel, the matter appeared to be important enough to involve an authority figure.

The officer did not simply laugh and send him away.

Instead, he listened to the child's complaint and asked him to identify the person responsible.

Gabriel then went to find his uncle.

That was when the situation took an unexpected turn.

Rather than returning with an older family member, Gabriel came back with another little boy.

Rafael was also five.

According to reports, the officer initially expected that Gabriel was referring to an adult. Toledo later explained that he became concerned and looked around for an adult before realizing that the alleged "uncle" was actually another child.

The discovery transformed what initially sounded like a routine complaint into something much more unusual.

Two boys stood before the officer.

Both were five years old.

And somehow, despite being the same age, one was genuinely the other's uncle.

How Can a Five-Year-Old Have a Five-Year-Old Uncle?

The family relationship sounds confusing at first, but it is entirely possible.

An uncle does not have to be older than his nephew.

The term describes a family relationship, not a particular age difference.

In this case, Gabriel's mother, Lara Carvalho, and Rafael are siblings. That makes Rafael Gabriel's maternal uncle—even though they were born only months apart.

Reports about the incident say that both boys were born in 2021, with only about a two-month difference between them. Lara had Gabriel, while her mother had Rafael around the same period.

That means the two boys have grown up more like peers than like the stereotypical uncle and nephew.

They are close enough in age to participate in the same activities, play together and experience many of the same childhood milestones.

Yet their family tree gives them different titles.

Rafael is Gabriel's uncle.

Gabriel is Rafael's nephew.

So while the two boys may look and behave like children from the same generation, their family relationship is technically different.

It is precisely that unusual combination—same age, close relationship and different family roles—that made the incident so memorable.

The family has reportedly embraced the coincidence with humor. Lara even shared a playful theory about the boys' close births, describing them as if they had been friends before coming into the world and were somehow destined to grow up together.

And that may help explain why a simple disagreement between them quickly became both funny and complicated.

Rafael Had a Very Simple Explanation

Once the police officer spoke with Rafael, the mystery did not last long.

The little boy did not appear particularly interested in constructing an elaborate defense.

His explanation was simple.

He had pushed Gabriel because Gabriel was moving too slowly.

According to the report carried by TV Anhanguera, Rafael explained that his nephew was "walking very slowly," which was why he pushed him.

From an adult perspective, the reasoning was obviously not a sufficient justification for pushing another child.

But from the perspective of two five-year-olds in the middle of a game or activity, the logic was probably much simpler.

One child wanted the other to move faster.

The other child did not.

A small disagreement escalated into a physical action.
