6 things that mice are very afraid of
To drive mice out of your home, you can use several natural ingredients that are both effective and safe for humans.
Repel mice with chili powder
Chili has a strong smell and spicy taste—something mice absolutely dislike. You can use chili powder to keep them away. Simply sprinkle chili powder (the hotter and stronger the smell, the better) in areas where mice often pass or hide. Once they smell the chili, they’ll quickly leave and rarely dare to return.
Repel mice with garlic
Garlic has a pungent, spicy smell that works well in repelling many pests. Mice have an extremely sensitive sense of smell, so the scent of garlic can easily drive them away. You can place crushed fresh garlic in corners or crevices where mice often appear to block their paths. Alternatively, sprinkle garlic powder into wall gaps or stuff cotton balls soaked in garlic juice into holes and cracks to prevent mice from gnawing and entering the house.
Repel mice with cinnamon
Cinnamon has a distinct aroma that effectively repels both mice and insects. Place cinnamon sticks or powder in places where mice usually go, such as the kitchen, under cabinets, or in the pantry. The strong scent will keep them away. Cinnamon also helps repel cockroaches, bugs, flies, and mosquitoes.
Repel mice with mint leaves
Mint leaves have a refreshing, slightly spicy scent that naturally repels pests, including mice. Crush fresh mint leaves and place them in corners, crevices, or hidden spots where mice may hide. The smell of mint can overwhelm their senses and force them to escape.
Repel mice with essential oils
Strongly scented essential oils are natural enemies of mice and insects. You can use cinnamon, peppermint, lavender, or lemongrass essential oils with an oil diffuser or aroma lamp to spread the scent throughout your home, keeping mice and bugs away. To boost effectiveness, soak cotton balls in essential oil and place them in small gaps or wall cracks where mice may dig or nest.
Repel mice with laundry detergent
You can mix chili sauce with laundry detergent and water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake well until fully dissolved. Spray it in areas where mice frequently appear. The detergent helps the chili scent stick longer, making the area unbearable for mice and keeping them from returning.
