A relationship can be legitimate from the perspective of the two people involved and still cause pain to others.
The claim that both marriages had ended privately does not mean every family member was emotionally prepared to see the new couple photographed.
Nor does the public have enough information to decide precisely who knew what on every date.
This is one reason responsible coverage should avoid treating the story as entertainment without consequences.
Remaining Together After the Cameras Left
Many observers assumed Robach and Holmes would separate after leaving ABC.
That prediction was understandable. Some relationships formed during periods of stress or professional intensity do not survive once the shared environment disappears.
Instead, the couple remained together.
They traveled, trained for races, attended events, and gradually became more open about their partnership.
Their decision to stay together did not prove that every earlier decision had been correct. Longevity is not a retroactive moral judgment.
But it did challenge the idea that the relationship was merely a temporary workplace affair.
They had lost the daily show that originally connected their public identities. Remaining together required building a partnership outside the institution that made them famous as a pair.
The Podcast Becomes Their New Platform
In December 2023, Robach and Holmes launched the Amy & T.J. podcast through iHeartMedia.
The project gave them something they had lost at ABC: control over the conversation.
Instead of answering questions within another outlet’s format, they could discuss the relationship, their career exits, emotional struggles, health, family, and disagreements at length.
The podcast’s launch date carried symbolism. It arrived approximately one year after they had been removed from GMA3.
Their names—once the subject of headlines they could not control—became the name of their own show.
The podcast was not simply a professional comeback. It turned the relationship itself into part of their media product.
That decision attracted criticism. Some believed they were monetizing a scandal that had hurt other people. Others saw it as a practical response by two broadcasters whose traditional careers had been disrupted.
Both interpretations contain some truth.
Speaking About Their Relationship Problems Publicly
The podcast did not present the relationship as perfect.
Robach and Holmes sometimes discussed disagreements, communication problems, anxiety, alcohol use, career frustration, and the pressures created by their public history.
One especially emotional episode attracted attention because listeners could hear tension between them rather than a carefully polished public image.
Robach later said listening back helped her view herself, Holmes, and the relationship differently. She described the experience as leading to greater intentionality and a period of growth.
Publicly discussing conflict can make a celebrity relationship appear more authentic. It can also blur the line between genuine emotional processing and content production.
Couples usually have difficult conversations privately. Robach and Holmes made some of theirs part of a commercial podcast.
That openness may have strengthened their bond, but it also invited the public into moments most couples would never share.
The Engagement
On October 14, 2025, Robach and Holmes announced their engagement through a short podcast episode titled “Robach-Holmes.”
They said they had already been engaged for approximately a month.
Robach had reportedly worn the ring in public without attracting significant speculation.
Holmes explained that they wanted to announce the news themselves before someone else did. The comment referred indirectly to the way their relationship had originally been exposed.
The engagement represented more than a promise to marry.
It was an attempt to control the sequence of disclosure.
In 2022, photographs had defined their relationship before they could present their own account. In 2025, they chose when and how to tell listeners about the next stage.
Their Former Spouses’ Unexpected Relationship
The story acquired an extraordinary twist in late 2023 when reports said Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig had begun dating.
Shue was Robach’s former husband. Fiebig was Holmes’s former wife.
According to reports, they developed a connection through the shared experience of their marriages ending as Robach and Holmes became a couple.
The symmetry was irresistible to entertainment media.
Two co-anchors left their marriages and formed a relationship. Their former spouses later formed another relationship with each other.
Yet the neatness of that description risks reducing four adults to a plot.
Shue and Fiebig have generally kept their relationship more private. Their bond should not be treated merely as revenge, irony, or an extension of the Robach-Holmes story.
It may have begun through shared understanding, but it belongs to them.
