ANGRY GINGE’S REAL NAME AND TRAUMATIC FAMILY HISTORY AS HE’S NAMED I’M A CELEB FAVOURITE
Content creator Angry Ginge has surged ahead as one of the frontrunners to win I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! before the new series officially launches this Sunday, 16 November. According to betting predictions, bookmakers have placed him firmly at the top of the list of potential champions (source: Sky Bet).
The YouTuber and Twitch streamer—known for his high-energy personality and comedic football content—will join a stacked 2025 cast including Alex Scott, Jack Osbourne, Martin Kemp, and rapper Aitch. Despite debate online about this year’s line-up and criticism over a newly introduced rule for the series, the ITV reality staple is expected to be one of the network’s biggest ratings successes of the year (source: The Independent).
For Angry Ginge, the show could mark a defining turning point in his career, following in the footsteps of fellow creator GK Barry, whose appearance in last year’s season propelled her into mainstream popularity. But what is likely to resonate deeply with viewers is the YouTuber’s difficult upbringing, which he has discussed openly on several platforms.
Angry Ginge’s Real Name and Early Life
Angry Ginge’s real name is Morgan Burtwistle, though he gained online popularity under his fiery nickname through football-related Twitch streams and FIFA content on YouTube. Hailing from Manchester, he has repeatedly emphasised how his background shaped both his humour and his online persona (source: indy100).
Morgan has spoken candidly about his strained relationship with his father, calling their dynamic turbulent and emotionally damaging. On the Off Stream podcast, he described his father as “a massive racist,” emphasising that it was only once he became an adult that he fully understood the severity of the behaviour he witnessed as a child. He said:
“Growing up my dad was a massive racist… when I’m seeing him I’m picking bits up [as a kid], but now that I’m older I notice it.”
He clarified that he never acted on these influences, but recalled being uncomfortable with things like his father using a racial slur as part of his Call of Duty username.
Family Conflict and a Painful Childhood
The creator has shared multiple stories about family conflict, including no longer speaking to his father partly due to how he treated Morgan’s mother. On the podcast, he recounted an incident in which his father took his mother to court in an attempt to force a legal name change.
Morgan explained that his mother lost the case, and as a result his name was altered from Morgan Sam Lee Burtwistle to Morgan Sam Lee Burtwistle Smith—a name he later removed when he became old enough to make the change himself.
He also described how his father allegedly avoided paying child maintenance by repeatedly switching jobs so authorities couldn’t trace him.
Morgan recalled several frightening incidents from his childhood:
“I cannot count on two hands how many times the back fences were kicked in… There’d be cans of Stella and smashed glass outside.”
He added that one night, his father allegedly threw a brick through the window, and shockingly attempted to visit Morgan the following day as if nothing had happened.
Even after Morgan began gaining traction online, he said his father reached out—not out of reconciliation, according to Morgan, but because he was becoming successful. Morgan said he had no desire to re-establish contact.

How His Upbringing Shapes His Content
Speaking with indy100, Morgan said that he believes viewers connect with him because he represents a background similar to theirs:
“People can relate that I’ve come from the same place they’ve come from. I’ve come from a council estate and I know what they go through.”
He emphasised that his experiences allow him to bond with his audience on a more personal and authentic level, which may contribute to his explosive popularity online.

Odds Favour Angry Ginge to Win
At present, Sky Bet lists Angry Ginge at 3/1 odds, giving him the strongest chance of taking the jungle crown out of all Season 2025 contestants. With a rapidly growing fan base, a compelling personal story, and a natural flair for entertainment, he may well become one of the standout stars of this year’s I’m A Celeb series.
