Fisk Gymnast Morgan Price Earns Highest-Ever Score for an HBCU Gymnast

She’s set the beam high!

Fisk University gymnast Morgan Price just made history — and she did it with strength, style, and a score that’s rewriting the record books.

During her latest competition, Price achieved a career-best 39.275 all-around score, according to Fisk University Gymnastics. The achievement marks not only her personal milestone but also the highest-ever all-around score by a gymnast representing a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) — a moment that cements her name in collegiate gymnastics history.

As The Tennessean reports, Price’s record-breaking performance included standout routines on vault, bars, beam, and floor, each executed with remarkable poise and power. Her consistency across all four events set her apart from a competitive field, landing her in second place overall and setting a new standard for excellence among HBCU athletes.

For Price, the moment wasn’t just about medals — it was about representation. “Every time I compete, I carry the name of Fisk and all the young girls who need to see what’s possible,” she told NBC News earlier this year.

Fisk University made history in 2023 when it became the first HBCU to launch an NCAA women’s gymnastics team, a groundbreaking step for diversity and inclusion in the sport (ESPN). Since then, Price has become one of the program’s brightest stars, balancing the pressure of trailblazing with the grace of a seasoned competitor.

Her 39.275 score reflects not only her talent but also the growing strength of Fisk’s gymnastics program, which continues to inspire both athletes and fans across the nation. Head Coach Corrinne Tarver, who herself made history as the first Black gymnast to win an NCAA all-around title in 1989 (Sports Illustrated), praised Price for her focus and leadership. “Morgan continues to prove that HBCU athletes can perform at the highest level,” Tarver said. “She’s not just competing — she’s changing the narrative.”

Since joining Fisk, Price has become a role model for young gymnasts of color who rarely see themselves represented in the sport at elite levels. Her achievement is a reminder that progress in athletics isn’t just measured in points or scores, but in pathways created and doors opened.

As Good Morning America noted, Fisk’s gymnastics program “symbolizes a new era for college athletics — one where opportunity, diversity, and excellence intersect.” And Morgan Price is leading that charge with every flip, leap, and landing.

With this record-breaking performance, Price has once again raised the bar — or rather, the beam — for what’s possible when determination meets opportunity.

Morgan Price didn’t just win a medal — she made history for every gymnast who will follow her.
