From Bathroom Break to Finish Line: The Amazing Tale of the Accidental Half Marathon Dog

On the morning of January 16, 2016, Hamlin let the young bloodhound outside for what was supposed to be a standard, brief bathroom break. Unbeknownst to Hamlin, however, that exact morning played host to the town’s inaugural official race: the Trackless Train Trek Half Marathon. The race’s starting line happened to be situated close to the area where Ludivine roamed.Drawn by the lively commotion, the chatter of eager participants, and the festive atmosphere of 165 human runners gathering at the starting line, the naturally curious bloodhound trotted over to investigate. Tim Horvath, a runner from nearby Huntsville who participated in the event, recalled seeing the friendly dog bouncing around the parking lot beforehand. Assuming she belonged to someone nearby in the small community, he gave her a friendly pat on the head.Then, the starting pistol fired. As the crowd surged forward into motion, Ludivine caught the infectious energy of the pack, fell right into stride, and took off with the runners.
