Gemma Atkinson addresses having another baby with Gorka Márquez: ‘A third would be nice’

Actors and media personalities Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Márquez have opened up about their differing views on expanding their family, with Gemma expressing openness to a third child while Gorka is quite firm that two children are enough.

A Love Story & Family Snapshot

Gemma and Gorka began their relationship after meeting on the set of Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, and by 2018 their romance had become public. They became engaged in 2021. The couple share two children: daughter Mia (born July 2019) and son Thiago (born July 2023).

Differing Views on Having Another Baby

In a recent episode of their podcast Lost in Translation, the topic of a third child came up. Gemma said:

“It does make you think, a third would be nice.”
Gorka’s response was definitive: “No.” She added: “He’s like absolutely not,” and he clarified: “Like even two… no, it’s perfect now.”

Gemma reflected further:

“It’s organised chaos, it’s fun. My sister’s got three kids but they’re all adults now.”

But Gorka stayed firm, stating their current family life is “perfect” and declaring again: “No more.”

Why the Gap Between Them?

When asked if she genuinely wanted another child, Gemma replied:

“Well, no, I don’t want to be pregnant again, but if someone gave us a baby… I’d rather have another dog.”

Gorka noted the flip-flop: “One month you want another kid and [then] you want me to have the snip, so I don’t know which one.” Gemma agreed: a vasectomy “could be the ideal solution.” HELLO!

Life on the Move, Raising Two Under Five

In another interview, the pair discussed their family, especially the challenges of Gorka’s travel/work commitments and parenting their daughter Mia while he’s away. Gemma admitted that when Gorka was absent for long stretches during the pandemic, it was “tough,” especially with Mia just one at the time.

Gorka added they’re now “used to it,” noting their relationship from the start included long-distance stretches, so they have routines: frequent FaceTime, reassuring children, and staying connected despite busy schedules.

What This Means

  • The couple seem content with two children, but the conversation shows Gemma’s still open to what the future might bring, while Gorka is more settled.

  • The fact that Gemma said she doesn’t want to be pregnant again but might be open to “another baby” reflects her awareness of the physical demands and their stage of life.

  • Gorka’s firm position suggests a desire for stability and perhaps a clearer sense of their family capacity and lifestyle, especially with his career and time away from home.

  • Their candidness about this decision underscores how modern couples negotiate family size, career demands and personal health, rather than assuming “one more” is always on the cards.
