How to Cook Pork Belly Without Water

Step 1:
Rinse the pork belly thoroughly under clean water. For better results, you can wash it with a little white wine to remove impurities and eliminate any unpleasant odor. This step helps the meat stay fresh and flavorful after cooking.

Step 2:
Bring a pot of water to a boil, then briefly blanch the pork belly for about 2 minutes. This helps remove excess fat and ensures the meat stays firm and clean. Remove the pork and let it drain well.

Step 3:
Peel the shallots and finely chop them.

Step 4:
Place the blanched pork belly into a bowl. Add the chopped shallots, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of seasoning powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Rub the seasoning evenly over all sides of the meat so it absorbs the flavors thoroughly.

Step 5:
Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let the pork marinate for about 15 minutes. This allows the seasonings to penetrate the meat, making it richer and more aromatic.

Step 6:
Cook the pork belly in the microwave without adding any water. Place the marinated pork on a microwave-safe plate and cook on High for 15 minutes. Flip the pork over to ensure even cooking, then continue microwaving for another 15 minutes. This method guarantees the pork is fully cooked, tender, and juicy while retaining its natural sweetness.

Step 7:
Remove the pork from the microwave and let it cool slightly. Slice it into thin pieces and serve.

Serving Tips

This no-water cooking method is perfect if you don’t need pork broth for soup. It’s fast, convenient, and surprisingly tasty. The pork belly remains soft, flavorful, and not greasy, making it ideal to serve with dipping sauce, fresh herbs, or steamed rice.

If you’re short on time but still want a delicious home-cooked dish, this waterless pork belly method is definitely worth trying.
