The doors slammed shut with a heavy creak behind the elderly man, and he found himself in the most dangerous prison, where the most ruthless inmates were held. Here, no one asked unnecessary questions and no one believed words. Everyone was on their own.

The old man looked out of place among those walls: thin, calm, with tired eyes. No one knew he was there by mistake. He had been set up by a friend he trusted more than anyone, who then disappeared.

From the very first minutes, people looked at him with mockery and coldness. Some whispered, others simply watched. In prison, they quickly sense who stands before them — a victim or someone better left alone. The old man was immediately placed in the first category. He spoke to no one and tried to keep his distance from everyone.

However, during dinner, everything changed.

The old man simply sat down at an empty table and began to eat calmly, ignoring the stares around him. He didn’t know that in that place, no one had the right to sit there. That table belonged to one man. They called him Strength because of his power.

All the inmates feared him without exception. They said he felt no pain and knew no mercy. He had already taken the lives of two fellow inmates and had nothing left to lose. He had been sentenced to life anyway. For him, prison had become home, and the others — just background.

When Strength approached the table, the hall fell silent.

“Get up,” he said calmly, looking down at the old man. “That’s my seat.”

The old man didn’t raise his eyes right away. He slowly chewed a bite of food, swallowed, and only then replied:

“I’ll finish eating and then I’ll get up. Wait a few minutes.”

Those words hung in the air like a mistake that could no longer be corrected and angered the dangerous inmate.

“You didn’t understand,” his voice grew harsher. “Get up now. This is my table.”

“Sorry,” the old man said just as calmly. “Your name isn’t written here. There’s enough space for everyone. There’s a free table over there.”

At that moment, someone at a nearby table let out a quiet breath. Everyone knew what would happen next — it was the end for the old man.

Strength clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white. Rage flashed in his eyes. He suddenly grabbed the old man’s tray and flipped it straight onto his head. Porridge and pieces of bread scattered over his shoulders and the table.

“Dinner’s over,” he hissed through his teeth. “Now get up.”

The old man slowly lifted his head. Food was dripping down his face, but there was no fear or panic in his eyes. Only cold calmness.

“Finished?” the old man asked quietly.

The question sounded in such a way that even those who stayed out of it felt the tension. Strength smirked and raised his hand to strike the old man in the face. But at that exact moment, something happened that left the entire prison in horror.

The old man suddenly moved aside, caught the arm, and with one precise motion threw the attacker off balance. The huge body slammed onto the table with a loud crash.

Just a second ago, everyone was looking at a helpless old man — and now, at a man lying on the floor whom even the guards feared.

But he didn’t stop there. The old man stood up, took a step forward, and calmly, without unnecessary anger, but with precision and force, delivered two short blows. Not in rage, not shouting — like a man who knows exactly what he’s doing.

Strength didn’t get up again. Silence filled the hall. No one moved. The old man wiped his face with his sleeve as if nothing special had happened and said quietly:

“I told you I’d finish eating and then get up.”

He sat back down and calmly began eating what was left. After a few seconds, someone couldn’t hold back and whispered:

“Who are you, anyway?..”

The old man paused for a moment, then gave a slight smile, but there was no joy in it.

“I used to be a world boxing champion.”

He said it as if it were something distant and no longer important. Later, it became known that this very fact had caused his misfortune. That same “friend” had used his past to set him up and disappear, leaving the old man there.

From that day on, no one approached that table again. Nor the old man.
