My Husband and His Mistress Accidentally Got Into My Taxi So I Gave the Cheater an Anniversary He’ll Never Forget
I was working a night shift, running on caffeine and sheer determination, when two passengers climbed into the back of my cab. I barely glanced at them—until I caught a familiar voice and looked in the rearview mirror. It was my husband. With another woman.
I didn’t say a word. I just tightened my grip on the steering wheel and quietly started planning the end of his lies.
There was a time when I truly believed I had found someone special in Jason.
He appeared during a golden phase of my life—when everything seemed to be falling into place. I had a stable job with a reputable firm, a cozy two-bedroom in Brooklyn, and most importantly, I had Jamie—my sweet five-year-old son who loved dinosaurs and warm chocolate chip cookies. My life wasn’t easy, but it was full.
Then came Jason—charming, clever, and temporarily down on his luck. He had nowhere to stay, and something about his vulnerability drew me in.
“He accepted Jamie like his own,” I told my best friend when she raised her eyebrows at how fast things were moving.
“You barely know him, Abby,” she warned.
But I ignored her. I wanted to believe that sometimes, love really could come out of nowhere and save you.
I helped Jason land a job using my contacts. Within months, he was walking around in tailored suits and a shiny new car. A year later, he proposed.
“You don’t need to work anymore, Abby,” he said. “Let me take care of things now. Focus on Jamie. I’ve got us.”
It sounded like a dream. And for a while, it was.
But slowly, everything shifted. Jason grew distant. The money, which was supposedly flowing, never seemed to make it to me. “It’s on the card,” “There’s a delay,” “Just wait a bit,” he’d say. And Jamie—sweet, sensitive Jamie—became an inconvenience to him.
Eventually, I had no choice but to pick up night shifts as a taxi driver just to make ends meet, while Jason claimed he was off on “business trips.”
That night, when I pulled up outside a trendy restaurant downtown and saw Jason slide into the backseat with another woman, my entire body went cold. She was younger, dressed to impress, and draped herself over him like she owned him.
They didn’t recognize me under my hoodie.
“Finally,” she murmured. “I thought you were going to cancel again.”
“Not tonight, Ashley,” he said. “I missed you.”
I gritted my teeth so hard I thought they might crack.
She laughed softly. “My parents want to meet you. If they like you, they’ll gift me a house. Maybe even two—one to live in, one to rent.”
Jason chuckled. “Perfect. As soon as my wife gets the inheritance, I’m done. Her mother’s really sick, so it won’t take long.”
My heart clenched. I had no idea he was waiting on my mother’s death like it was a payday.
Then Ashley said, “Let’s have a barbecue this weekend. Saturday?”
Jason agreed with a smile.
Saturday. Our anniversary.
He didn’t even remember.
That Tuesday, I cooked dinner and set the table like nothing was wrong. When Jason walked in, I acted warm, even poured him a glass of wine.
“Jason,” I said, “do you know what Saturday is?”
He hesitated. “Our anniversary?”
I smiled like I hadn’t just listened to him plan our replacement.
“Right,” I said. “I made a reservation at that lakeside place. Eight o’clock.”
He fumbled. “Actually, I have to travel that day. Work meeting. But we don’t need dates to prove anything, right?”
I nodded slowly. “Of course.”
Inside, I was already plotting his ruin.
Saturday arrived. I dressed Jamie in his favorite shirt—the green one with the cartoon dinosaur. He was giddy.
“Are we going somewhere fun, Mommy?”
“Oh yes, sweetheart,” I smiled. “There’ll be ice cream.”
I put on the blue dress I hadn’t worn in years—the same one I wore on my first date with Jason. I curled my hair, added lipstick, and looked at myself in the mirror. I saw a woman I hadn’t seen in a long time—steady, strong, and done pretending.
We drove to Ashley’s house. The yard was buzzing with guests and music. Someone was grilling. I held Jamie’s hand and rang the doorbell.
Ashley answered, glowing—until she saw me.
Her smile faltered. “Can I help you?”
“I was invited,” I said smoothly. “By your parents.”
She blinked in confusion but called over her shoulder. “Mom? Dad? Someone’s here to see you.”
They arrived moments later—elegant, warm-looking people—who looked at me with polite confusion.
“Good afternoon,” I said brightly. “Sorry to drop in. I just thought I should meet the man your daughter’s planning to marry. You know… my husband.”
Jason walked in right then, holding a drink and wearing his best ‘charming fiancé’ smile—until he saw me. His expression collapsed.
“Happy anniversary, Jason,” I said. “I brought your gift.”
Jamie peeked out from behind me. “Hi, Daddy! Mommy said there’d be ice cream!”
The room went still. Ashley’s face turned pale. Her parents looked horrified.
“You have a child?” Ashley gasped. “You told me she didn’t have kids!”
I walked over, slipped my wedding ring off, and dropped it in Jason’s hand with a loud metallic clink.
“I stood by you when you had nothing,” I said, my voice sharp. “I believed in you. I gave you a home. And you gave me betrayal.”
I turned to Ashley’s parents.
“He planned to leave me after my mother’s death, once he could cash in on the inheritance. Then he’d marry Ashley and live off the two houses you promised her.”
The silence shattered like glass.
Ashley stumbled back. Her mother sank into a chair. Her father’s face turned to stone.
“You… disgusting liar,” her father growled at Jason.
I took Jamie’s hand.
“Let’s go, honey. These people have some thinking to do.”
As we walked away, chaos erupted behind us—raised voices, a broken glass, someone shouting Jason’s name.
I didn’t look back. Not once.
Three months later, at the divorce hearing, Ashley’s parents testified on my behalf. They were ashamed but honest. Their words helped seal Jason’s fate.
He walked away with nothing.
I brought my mom to live with us. We sold her old apartment and moved to a little place near the ocean. Sunlight poured through the windows. Jamie loved digging holes in the sand. And me?
I finally exhaled.
Because peace… is the real luxury. And no man, no matter how smooth, is worth sacrificing your peace for.
