Nivea Fights Back Tears as She Shares the Leukemia Update She Prayed For

For a few seconds, Nivea could not hide what the news meant to her.

Sitting beneath the studio lights, the R&B singer appeared to be processing months of fear, treatment and uncertainty all over again. Then came the words that changed the mood of the entire conversation: her leukemia was in remission.

The announcement was greeted as hopeful news, but Nivea’s reaction told the fuller story. Her eyes filled with tears. Her voice carried the weight of someone who knew how different the conversation could have been.

“I’m very grateful,” she said.

It was a short sentence, but it captured an experience that is rarely simple. A cancer update is not just a medical result. For the person receiving it, it can represent every appointment, every unanswered question and every night spent wondering what comes next.

For Nivea, the update arrived only months after she publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, commonly known as CML.

Now, at 44, she is sharing an encouraging milestone while also acknowledging that treatment continues to affect her daily life.

The announcement that brought Nivea to tears

Nivea disclosed the remission update during an October 7 appearance on The Tamron Hall Show. Host Tamron Hall shared the news with the audience as the singer became visibly emotional.

Nivea explained that the result was difficult to believe because her diagnosis had come only a few months earlier. Although she understood that the medication she was taking could be effective, she also knew that no two patients respond in exactly the same way.

That uncertainty made the positive result especially meaningful.

According to Nivea, the treatment has required adjustment. She continues to deal with significant fatigue and has also spoken about bleeding, fibroids and other health issues. Even so, she emphasized that she considers herself fortunate and does not want her ongoing difficulties to overshadow the progress she has made.

That combination—relief without pretending everything is easy—is one reason the moment resonated so deeply.

This was not a celebrity presenting a perfectly polished recovery story. It was a woman allowing viewers to see gratitude and exhaustion existing at the same time.

Her diagnosis was confirmed after two bone marrow procedures

Nivea first publicly discussed her leukemia diagnosis in July 2026, although she said the condition had been diagnosed earlier in the year.

Her representative later identified the disease as chronic myeloid leukemia. Nivea also revealed that confirmation required two bone marrow biopsy procedures because the first attempt was unsuccessful.

A bone marrow biopsy is used to collect and examine marrow, blood or a small piece of bone for abnormal cells. Blood and bone marrow testing can also identify the genetic changes associated with CML and help doctors determine how the disease is responding to treatment.

Going through such a procedure twice added another layer to what was already an emotionally overwhelming experience.
