That morning, the airport was buzzing. Some people were rushing to their gates, others stood in line with coffee, and
some simply stared out the windows, watching the planes take off. But in a quiet corner of the terminal, something
unusual was happening.
People started to stop, whisper, and pull out their phones. On the cold tile floor lay a young man in military uniform. He
had placed a small, worn blanket underneath him and curled up, hugging his knees. His face was pale. His eyes were
closed. He was breathing heavily.
Next to him, like a stone statue, sat a German shepherd. Large, strong, with intelligent eyes. She didn’t take her eyes off
the people around her for even a second. If anyone tried to get close — even just to walk past — she would stand up on
her hind legs and growl. Not angrily, but warningly.
People hesitated. Some tried talking to the dog, others called security. But no one dared to come near.

It turned out this was no ordinary dog. She was a service dog — the soldier’s partner. They had just returned from a
combat zone where they had spent eight exhausting months.
During the final three days before their return, the soldier hadn’t slept at all — he had been filling out documents, going
through debriefings, and waiting for flight clearance.
He had held it together as long as he could. And there, in the airport, with still a few hours before boarding, he finally
allowed himself to lie down. To sleep. Without fear. Without anxiety.
And his loyal dog — the only being he fully trusted — knew: as long as he sleeps, no one must come near him.
An airport employee who had already been informed approached gently. He spoke calmly to the dog, showed his ID,
slowly crouched down, and let her sniff his hand.
Only then did the shepherd slowly step aside, still watching. The soldier wasn’t woken. They simply put up a barrier
around him so no one would disturb him. And someone quietly placed a bottle of water and a bag of food beside him.
Two hours later, the man woke up. He had no idea that a crowd had gathered around, or that some people had even cried
when they saw the dog’s loyalty.
He simply stood up, patted the dog on the head, picked up his backpack — and walked toward the gate.
