Pregnant Jack Russell Khloe Became an Internet Star After Getting Her Own Glamorous Maternity Photoshoot
Maternity photography has become a familiar way for expecting parents to celebrate the weeks before a new baby arrives. There are flowing dresses, carefully arranged flowers, soft blankets, dramatic backdrops and photographs designed to capture the anticipation of a life-changing moment.
But one unforgettable maternity session from Kentucky had a very different kind of mother-to-be at the center of the frame.
She had four paws, a wagging tail and four puppies on the way.
Her name was Khloe.
Khloe, a Jack Russell terrier, became an unexpected internet sensation after her owner, animal photographer Caitlin Snyman, decided that the dog's first pregnancy deserved something far more elaborate than an ordinary snapshot.
Instead, Khloe received the full maternity-photo experience.
Flowers were arranged around her. Pink ribbons and blankets helped create a soft, feminine setting. The decorations looked like something that might normally surround an expecting human mother during a professional portrait session.
And Khloe appeared perfectly comfortable being the star.
The photographs originally attracted widespread attention in 2021 and have resurfaced online again in 2026, introducing the unusually glamorous mother-to-be to a new generation of social-media users. Recent reports confirm that the images now circulating are from the earlier 2021 session rather than a newly staged photoshoot.
What started as a personal pregnancy announcement for friends and family eventually became one of those rare internet stories that seems almost designed to make people smile.
A Pregnancy Announcement With a Difference
When Snyman learned that Khloe was expecting her first litter, she could easily have announced the news with a simple photograph.
Instead, she saw an opportunity to create something memorable.
Snyman was already comfortable working with animals in front of a camera, and Khloe was reportedly no stranger to posing. Contemporary coverage of the photoshoot said the terrier enjoyed participating in photography sessions and performing tricks, which meant she was more accustomed to cameras and posing than the average family pet.
That familiarity helped turn what could have been a quick portrait into an elaborate maternity session.
Snyman chose pink as the dominant theme. Flowers were arranged around Khloe, ribbons added to the scene and a fluffy pink blanket helped complete the setting. The photographs were timed late enough in Khloe's pregnancy for her growing belly to be clearly visible.
The result looked remarkably similar to a traditional maternity portrait session.
Except, of course, the model was a Jack Russell.
Khloe sat proudly in front of the decorations with her belly on display. In other photographs, she relaxed on her back among the flowers and blankets. The seriousness of the styling combined with the unexpected four-legged model gave the images their distinctive charm.
The session reportedly lasted around three hours, a considerable amount of time for any pet photography assignment, particularly one involving a heavily pregnant dog. Khloe, however, apparently handled the attention like an experienced model.
Reports about the original session said Snyman regarded Khloe as part of the family and wanted to make the announcement particularly special. What had initially been intended as something cute to share with relatives and friends quickly reached a far wider audience.
Four Puppies Were on the Way
At the time of the maternity shoot, Khloe was expecting four puppies.
That detail made the carefully staged photographs even more endearing. Her round belly was not simply a prop for the camera. It represented four tiny puppies developing inside her and the beginning of Khloe's first experience as a mother.
Reports published after the session said Khloe eventually gave birth to four puppies. Snyman had also spoken about the possibility of photographing the newborn litter after their arrival, continuing the visual record of the pregnancy into the puppies' first days of life.
The story may appear lighthearted, but canine pregnancy itself happens remarkably quickly compared with human pregnancy.
According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, pregnancy in dogs generally lasts around 62 to 64 days. Exact timing can be difficult to determine because the date of breeding does not necessarily correspond exactly with conception, and gestation can vary somewhat according to factors such as breed and litter size.
That means the entire transformation from early pregnancy to the arrival of fully developed puppies usually takes only about two months.
The American Kennel Club similarly explains that canine pregnancy is approximately nine weeks long, with significant developmental changes occurring in a relatively compressed period. Veterinary examinations, hormone testing, ultrasound and, later in pregnancy, radiographs can be used to confirm pregnancy or estimate litter size when appropriate.
In Khloe's case, by the time her maternity photographs were taken, her belly had become the unmistakable centerpiece of the images.
