This wordplay reflects the same instinct behind “Scoop Dogg.” It takes familiar language from Snoop’s musical identity and transfers it into a different kind of product.
The brand’s official website describes Dr. Bombay as a mixture of creamy ice cream and bold sherbet, built around nostalgia, contrasting flavors and Snoop’s personal vision. The current lineup includes combinations such as Sticky Caramel Apple, Baked Blueberry Muffin, Peanut Butter Jelly Time, Strawberry Cream Dream, Tropical Sherbet Swizzle and Iced Out Orange Cream.
Snoop did not simply lend his name to a generic carton.
According to Happi Co., he helped select flavors, requested the inclusion of sherbet and participated in decisions about the product’s format and presentation. Reich described him as a co-founder and the creative force behind the business rather than only a celebrity spokesperson.
That distinction is central to Snoop Dogg’s modern business strategy.
Why the brand is called Dr. Bombay
If the old joke involved the name Scoop Dogg, why did the actual ice cream brand become Dr. Bombay?
Dr. Bombay began as a digital character owned by Snoop Dogg. The character came from the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection and was later developed into a mascot and alter ego.
Happi Co. described the project as moving Dr. Bombay from the digital world into a physical consumer brand. Instead of placing Snoop’s face on every pint, the business built a separate character capable of representing the products.
Snoop explained through the brand’s launch material that he viewed Dr. Bombay almost like a creative sidekick or a son whose success he wanted to nurture.
From a branding perspective, the choice gave the company more room to expand.
“Scoop Dogg” is an excellent joke, but it depends entirely on Snoop’s name. Dr. Bombay can function as a colorful mascot across packaging, merchandise, animation, promotions and future food categories.
The character also fits the exaggerated, playful visual language of modern snack brands. It offers something recognizable to fans without requiring every product to resemble a traditional celebrity endorsement.
Snoop’s official website presents Dr. Bombay as a celebration of West Coast culture, 1990s hip-hop and his relaxed public style. Each flavor is intended to feel like a nostalgic extension of that identity.
The old Scoop Dogg concept survived in spirit, even though the company adopted a different name.
Snoop launched the business without leaving music
The viral quotation imagines ice cream as a retirement project.
Reality developed differently.
Snoop did not wait until he had stopped rapping. Dr. Bombay arrived while he remained active as a musician, media personality, producer and entrepreneur.
This is an important correction to the way some social posts present the story. They sometimes imply that Snoop has announced his retirement and plans to become an ice cream shop owner afterward.
He has not.
The more interesting truth is that he managed to pursue both careers simultaneously. He continued recording and performing while building a dessert brand distributed through national retailers.
In the 2023 Dairy Foods interview, Reich joked that Snoop’s dream was coming true while he was still rapping. That is a more accurate description than the literal retirement plan contained in the old quotation.
The ice cream business became another part of the Snoop Dogg universe rather than a replacement for music.
That pattern is familiar throughout his career. Snoop has repeatedly expanded into new areas without abandoning the identity that first made him famous.
From rapper to unusually versatile entrepreneur
Snoop Dogg emerged as one of the defining voices of West Coast hip-hop in the early 1990s. His vocal style, partnership with Dr. Dre and debut album Doggystyle made him an international star.
