Just Stick a Pair of Scissors into a Rice Container and Something Magical Happens – Once You Hear It, You’ll Want to Try Right Away!

Rice is a staple food in every Vietnamese household. However, not everyone knows about the many practical uses of rice in daily life. Simply by sticking a pair of scissors into a container of rice, something magical happens, and once you hear about it, you’ll surely want to give it a try.

Sticking Scissors into a Rice Container Brings “Golden” Benefits

Rusty scissors are a common problem in daily life. When scissors rust, they become unpleasant to use. At that moment, rice can be the perfect solution.

Just stick the scissors into rice – thanks to rice’s excellent moisture-absorbing properties, it will help clean and prevent rust effectively. In addition, for other metal tools such as pliers or screwdrivers, you can stick their metal parts into rice as well. Rice helps absorb moisture and slow down oxidation, preventing tarnishing and extending the lifespan of these items.

Other Uses of Rice in Everyday Life

1. Make a Hot Compress
When you feel tired, you can make a simple hot compress with rice. Put rice into a cloth bag of your preferred shape, place it in the microwave for about 30 seconds, then take it out. You’ll have a convenient hot pack to relax and massage sore areas quickly.

2. Test the Heat of Cooking Oil
To check if cooking oil is hot enough without altering the flavor, just drop a few grains of rice into it. Remember to remove the grains before adding food for frying.

3. Rescue a Wet Phone
If you accidentally drop your phone into water, don’t panic. Calmly retrieve it, remove the battery immediately, and place the phone in a container of rice for several hours. Rice’s strong moisture absorption will dry out the phone.

Important note: Do not use a hair dryer to dry the phone, as the hot air and strong force may damage delicate internal components.

4. Clean the Bottom of Deep Containers
Cleaning the inside of teapots, glass jars, or deep cups is often difficult because the narrow opening prevents hand scrubbing. To solve this, put a handful of rice, a few drops of dishwashing liquid, and about 2/3 water inside. Cover the opening and shake vigorously until the stains are gone.

5. Replace Moisture-Absorbing Packets
Spice jars containing salt, sugar, or pepper often clump due to moisture. To prevent this, put a small amount of rice into a thin cloth pouch and place it in the jar. The next day, simply remove the rice, and the problem is solved.

6. Clean a Coffee Grinder
To clean a coffee grinder, pour half a cup of rice inside and grind for about one minute until the rice turns into powder. This method removes leftover coffee odors and sharpens the blades.

7. Ripen Fruit Faster
If you want fruit to ripen quickly, bury unripe fruit deep in a container of rice. Rice retains ethylene gas very well, which speeds up ripening. This traditional method works especially well for bananas, avocados, and mangoes.

8. Preserve Eggs Effectively
If you don’t want to store eggs in the fridge, place them in a rice container with the larger end facing upward and the smaller end downward. The fine bran particles in rice can block pores in the eggshell, preventing bacteria from entering and keeping the eggs fresh longer.
