Study reveals average penis size across US states and exposes who is exaggerating

Experts recently conducted a survey to determine which U.S. states have residents most likely to exaggerate their penis sizes when discussing them with potential partners, and just how much people claim their sizes to be.
In 2020, a study combined past research to establish the average penis size. Published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy, it found the average erect penis length to be between 5.1 and 5.5 inches.
Three years later, the team at Bespoke Surgical decided to conduct their own nationwide survey to uncover the true size of American manhood.
To gather data, the New York-based company asked over 1,300 men two simple questions:
-
"What is your actual penis length when fully erect?"
-
"What length do you claim when asked by potential partners, dates, or significant others?"
The survey, they clarified, wasn't intended to "shame any state or region," but rather to provide insights into who claims to have the biggest size and which state is most likely to exaggerate their measurements.
The self-reported results revealed that penis size varied considerably by state. Delaware residents reported the smallest average size at 5.22 inches, followed by New Mexico (5.36 inches) and Maryland (5.5 inches).
On the other end of the scale, the five states with the highest reported average penis sizes included Alabama (7.44 inches), Louisiana (7.15 inches), West Virginia (7 inches), Vermont (6.98 inches), and Utah (6.97 inches). According to Bespoke Surgical, the national average penis size in the U.S. was 6.41 inches when fully erect—significantly higher than the earlier study.
But which states are most prone to exaggerating their size?
Apparently, Louisiana tops the list. The state had the largest reported exaggeration, with men claiming an average size of 8.07 inches—about 0.92 inches more than their actual size.
Interestingly, Delaware residents, who had the smallest reported size, exaggerated by 1.30 inches on average, while Georgia men reported a smaller exaggeration of about 0.66 inches.
Now for the fun part—how do men report their size when asked by potential partners or dates? According to the survey, 26 percent of men admitted to exaggerating their size by about 0.98 inches on average. Conversely, 12 percent of men understated their size by about 1.03 inches on average, while 62 percent reported their actual size.
It seems honesty might be the best approach... we’re looking at you, Louisiana!
