The Jailhouse Interview
In June 2024, ABC13 conducted a jailhouse interview with Fisher.
The interview generated further controversy because Fisher reportedly said she had "zero regrets" about the killing. According to ABC13, she characterized the murder as random and said it could have been anyone that day.
She also reportedly told the station that she remembered the day and described a feeling that she knew Anderson despite investigators saying the two had never previously interacted.
Fisher discussed her own history during the interview, including longstanding mental-health difficulties and experiences from her adolescence and early adulthood.
She also made repeated references to religion, telling the reporter that "God saved me that day," according to ABC13's account.
The interview did not resolve the central questions of the investigation.
If anything, it highlighted how much remained unknown.
Why Anderson?
Why that neighborhood?
Why that particular day?
Why did the alleged attack escalate from a vehicle strike into a stabbing?
And what was happening psychologically or chemically that might have influenced Fisher's behavior?
Those questions were still being examined.
The Vehicle May Have Added Another Layer to the Investigation
Investigators also looked into the vehicle used in the attack.
The Houston Chronicle reported that police determined the white sedan had been reported stolen from a hotel roughly two hours before the killing. A hotel guest later contacted investigators and alleged that Fisher had taken the vehicle without permission.
That information potentially added another sequence of events to the investigation.
Authorities were no longer examining only what happened outside Anderson's home. They also had to reconstruct where Fisher had been beforehand, how she obtained the vehicle, and what occurred between the alleged vehicle theft and the fatal attack.
The vehicle's history could therefore help investigators build a timeline.
Yet even with that information, a motive remained elusive.
Police had not established that Fisher knew Anderson, and investigators had not publicly identified a personal dispute or prior encounter between them.
Why the Case Shocked Houston
The brutality of the crime was certainly one reason the story spread.
But the randomness was arguably even more disturbing.
People generally assume that violent crime has a recognizable context. A person may be attacked during a robbery, a domestic dispute, a gang conflict or a longstanding feud. Those situations are frightening, but they can sometimes be understood as conflicts involving particular people or circumstances.
The Anderson case appeared different.
According to investigators, there was no known relationship between the victim and suspect.
Anderson was not reportedly meeting someone.
He was not involved in a public argument.
He was simply outside his home.
The attack therefore challenged a basic assumption about personal safety: that avoiding dangerous people and situations can substantially reduce the risk of becoming a victim.
For Anderson's neighbors, the crime transformed a familiar residential street into the setting of an event they could not easily forget.
