Tips for using air conditioners, staying cool all day without worrying about skyrocketing electricity bills

How to Use Air Conditioners Efficiently and Save on Electricity Bills

Nowadays, almost every household has an air conditioner to cope with heat, especially during the summer. However, improper use of air conditioners can lead to soaring electricity bills, rapid wear and tear, costly repairs, or even the need to replace the device entirely. Therefore, here are some practical tips to stay cool all day while keeping energy consumption in check.

Ventilate the Room Early in the Day

In the early morning, when the air is still cool and fresh, open all windows and doors to allow proper ventilation. Letting in natural fresh air helps balance indoor temperature and removes stale air. Once the outside temperature starts to rise, quickly close all windows and curtains to prevent hot air from entering. This method helps your air conditioner cool the room faster and more efficiently, without the need to run it at maximum power, saving electricity and extending the unit's lifespan.

Combine Air Conditioning with Fans

Another effective way to prevent your air conditioner from overworking—and therefore reduce electricity usage—is to combine it with an electric fan. By running a fan while the AC is on, cool air circulates more quickly throughout the room. This ensures everyone enjoys a refreshing breeze, while the air conditioner doesn’t need to operate at full capacity. Fans also help maintain an even temperature, reducing hot spots and making the cooling experience more comfortable.

Use the “Dry” Mode

Many users focus only on turning the air conditioner on or off and adjusting the temperature. However, selecting the right mode can significantly improve efficiency. The “Dry” mode, often represented by a water droplet icon, is particularly beneficial. This mode reduces energy consumption by up to 10 times compared to the regular cooling mode and prevents sudden temperature shocks. It keeps the room at a comfortable temperature, typically around 23°C, while minimizing large fluctuations compared to the outside temperature. Just one simple adjustment can yield numerous advantages.

Avoid Frequent On/Off Switching and Remember to Turn Off the Circuit Breaker

Do not think that turning the air conditioner off and on repeatedly saves electricity. Doing so multiple times not only fails to save energy but can also damage the device. Every time the AC starts, it draws extra power to activate the cooling mechanism. Instead, turn off the air conditioner about 30 minutes before leaving the room and make sure to always switch off the circuit breaker (Aptomat) to prevent unnecessary electricity consumption. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning filters and checking the system for leaks, will also prolong the unit’s life and keep it running efficiently.

By following these tips—ventilating early, combining fans with AC, using “Dry” mode, and avoiding unnecessary on/off cycles—you can enjoy a cool, comfortable home without overspending on electricity bills. Small changes in daily habits can lead to significant savings and a longer-lasting air conditioner.
