Tips to clean rust from gas stoves with rice water and cooking oil, seems like a joke but the effect is surprising, the stove is sparkling clean

How to Clean Rust on a Gas Stove with Rice Water and Cooking Oil

Gas stoves tend to rust over time because food particles stick to them, moisture causes metal oxidation on the stove’s burners, and the stove's surface gets dirty. To clean your stove, you can use rice water, cooking oil, or even animal fat.

Rice water contains starch, which helps to soften rust stains. Use a spoonful of thick rice water, the thicker the better. Then, soak a soft cloth in the rice water and apply it evenly to the surface of the stove and burners. It's best to use the rice water while it's still warm to help loosen the stains for easier cleaning. Afterward, scrub the rusted surface and grease a few times, and it will gradually come off. Finally, wipe everything clean with a cloth dipped in some dish soap.

Cooking oil or animal fat can also be used to clean the stove. Simply apply the oil to the rusted spots to soften the stains. Then, scrub vigorously to help lift off the rust and make it easier to clean. Once you're done, you can either rinse it off or wipe it with a cloth soaked in hot water, or use a paper towel to remove any leftover grease.

Additionally, other common kitchen ingredients can help clean your stove without the need for chemical cleaners.

Vinegar Can Clean Rust

Vinegar can also help remove rust stains. It has natural cleaning properties. Apply vinegar to the rusty spots, and its acidity will dissolve the rust in just a few minutes. Then, use a soft cloth to wipe it away, and you'll be amazed to see your stove looking brand new.

Vinegar Cleans Your Gas Stove

Using Lemon Juice

Lemon juice, like vinegar, has acidic properties and can soften stains, particularly grease stains on your gas stove. Apply lemon juice or rub a fresh lemon slice on the stove's surface. The acidity will break down the stains, making them easier to clean. Let the lemon juice sit for about 15 minutes before wiping it off. The rust and grease will easily come off.

Use Hot Water to Loosen Stains

Hot water can soften the stains stuck on the gas stove. Hot water helps the grease to wash off easily. Soak a cloth in hot water and wipe the stove surface or dip the burners into a basin of hot water to soften the stains, making it easier to clean. Don’t forget to wear protective gloves to avoid burns. You can use thick fabric gloves and then cover them with rubber gloves for extra protection.

Using Baking Soda to Clean the Stove

Baking soda is a common ingredient in baking, but it also has cleaning properties. It’s effective, safe, and inexpensive for removing rust stains. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda with clean water to form a paste. Apply the paste to the stove and scrub with a steel wool pad. Afterward, rinse with clean water.

With these kitchen ingredients, you can clean your gas stove safely without worrying about corrosive chemical cleaners.

To prevent your gas stove from rusting quickly, avoid cooking food that overflows, and clean up any splattered food or grease immediately after cooking by wiping it with a cloth.
