Turns out I've been using it the wrong way for a long time

How to Use a Washing Machine Properly and Keep Clothes Truly Clean

While many people enjoy the convenience of washing machines, they often complain that their clothes are not thoroughly clean or even have a strange odor. However, the problem may not lie with the washing machine itself, but with how we use it.

Today, I want to share some tips on using a washing machine correctly and cleaning the detergent drawer regularly to ensure clothes come out cleaner and fresher.

1. Focus on cleaning the detergent drawer

The detergent drawer is an important part of the washing machine. It holds the detergent and mixes it with clothes during the wash cycle. Over time, dirt and residue can accumulate in the drawer, which can leave clothes smelling unpleasant even after washing. Therefore, it’s essential to clean the detergent drawer regularly.

Cleaning the drawer is relatively simple. First, locate the button in the center of the drawer and press it lightly to remove the drawer easily. When washing, make sure to wipe every corner thoroughly to remove any residue. If the drawer hasn’t been cleaned for a long time, you can use a wet cloth or a small brush to scrub it carefully — otherwise, the smell on the clothes will be noticeable. After cleaning, reinsert the drawer securely, ensuring it’s properly positioned.

2. How to use the washing machine correctly

Many people pour detergent directly into the drum, but this is actually a mistake. The proper way is to put the detergent into the main wash compartment.

You can also use the pre-wash compartment and the softener compartment when needed. The pre-wash compartment is for heavily soiled clothes, and the wash time can be extended using the pre-wash function. The softener compartment is for adding fabric softener or color fixatives before the final rinse. When using these compartments, make sure to place the detergent or additives in the correct order and compartment to ensure clothes are soaked and cleaned thoroughly.

3. A small but important safety reminder

During a wash cycle, the washing machine lid cannot be opened. Be careful not to accidentally leave valuable items, such as phones or electronics, in the drum. Don’t worry if this happens — most machines have a small emergency button at the bottom. You can press it with a coin and then pull a cord to open the lid and retrieve your items safely.

4. Summary

To ensure your clothes are cleaner and less likely to retain odors, it’s essential to clean the detergent drawer regularly and use the washing machine correctly. By doing so, you can fully enjoy the convenience of a washing machine and develop good laundry habits.
