Most people have owned something with an imperfection that bothers them more than it probably should: a scratched piece of furniture, a missing button, a mismatched replacement part or a small cosmetic flaw that catches the eye every single time.
Usually, fixing those annoyances requires time or money.
Meador's problem was solved because the exact correct piece happened to drive past him.
That is the kind of everyday luck people enjoy imagining.
Two Trucks, Two Wrong Parts, One Right Moment
Ultimately, the story does not need much embellishment.
Its charm comes from what actually happened.
Dylan Meador had recently purchased a gold 2001 Ford F-250 with a silver replacement tailgate.
Then, while leaving a Verizon store, he saw another F-250 pass by.
That truck was silver.
Its tailgate was gold.
Meador caught up with the driver, and the two eventually pulled into a grocery store parking lot. There, they exchanged the tailgates.

No unnecessary replacement parts.
No complicated deal.
Just two strangers who happened to own precisely what the other person needed.
Perhaps that is why the story has resonated with so many people.
Life does not usually arrange its loose ends this neatly.
But every once in a while, circumstances line up in a way that feels almost scripted.
A person has the wrong part.
A stranger has the opposite wrong part.
Their paths cross.
They notice.
They trade.
And two problems disappear at the same time.
For two Ford F-250 owners, the solution to an annoying problem was not waiting in a dealership, an auto-parts catalog or a repair shop.
It was driving down the road.
Sometimes the thing you have been looking for really does show up when you least expect it.
And sometimes it is attached to the back of somebody else's truck.
