Vaseline Clove Collagen Oil: Young-Looking, Glowing, Flawless Skin
Petroleum jelly is famous for its ability to seal in moisture and protect a compromised skin barrier, while clove bud essential oil is packed with the antioxidant eugenol, which can help defend collagen fibers from free-radical damage. When you combine these two powerhouses with a thoughtfully balanced mix of humectants, carrier oils, and vitamins, you create a simple yet remarkably effective “collagen oil.” This balm-like treatment cushions the skin, softens fine lines, brightens dull tone, and leaves a dewy, glass-skin finish—all without relying on expensive commercial serums.
The formula below uses only easily found pantry or drug-store ingredients, takes ten minutes to make, and keeps well for up to three months when stored in a cool, dark place.
Ingredients Required
(Makes about 30 g)
- 2 teaspoons petroleum jelly (Vaseline) – occlusive layer that locks in moisture
- 1 teaspoon sweet almond oil – lightweight emollient rich in fatty acids
- 1 teaspoon rosehip seed oil – natural source of vitamins A and C for collagen support
- ½ teaspoon jojoba oil – wax ester that closely resembles human sebum, helping to balance oiliness
- ¼ teaspoon vegetable glycerin – humectant that attracts water into the outer skin layers
- 2 drops vitamin E oil (tocopherol) – antioxidant that helps soothe and repair
- 1 drop clove bud essential oil – concentrated antioxidant and antimicrobial boost (keep dilution around 0.3 %)
- Optional pinch (about ⅛ teaspoon) turmeric powder – adds curcumin for extra brightening and anti-inflammatory power
Procedure
- Melt and temper
Place the petroleum jelly in a heat-safe glass bowl. Set the bowl over a pot of barely simmering water until the jelly turns liquid (around 40 °C). Remove the bowl from heat. - Blend in carrier oils
Stir the sweet almond, rosehip, and jojoba oils into the warmed jelly, whisking gently until the mixture looks uniform and glossy. - Add humectant and antioxidant
Mix in the vegetable glycerin and vitamin E oil. Continue whisking so everything emulsifies smoothly. - Dilute the essential oil
Let the blend cool to just above body temperature (no hotter than 37 °C) before adding a single drop of clove bud essential oil. This ensures the active compounds remain potent while staying within safe dilution limits. - Optional turmeric tint
If you’d like a golden hue and curcumin benefits, sift in a tiny pinch of turmeric powder and whisk until evenly dispersed. - Set and store
Pour the finished oil-gel into a sterilized 30 g amber or opaque cosmetic jar, cap tightly, and label with the date. It will re-solidify at room temperature, forming a balm with a velvety finish.
Instructions for Use
- Patch test first. Apply a pea-sized dab behind the ear or on the inner forearm and monitor for 24 hours.
- Best applied at night. Cleanse your face, optionally use a gentle toner or hydrating serum, then warm a rice-grain amount of the collagen oil between fingertips and press onto slightly damp face and neck.
- Layering order matters. Water-based serums go first, light lotions next, and this occlusive balm last.
- Frequency guide.
- Normal or combination skin: 3–4 nights per week
- Oily skin: alternate nights
- Very dry or mature skin: nightly use
- Morning aftercare. Rinse with a mild cleanser and finish daytime routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen, especially if you added turmeric.
- Shelf life. Use within three months; discard sooner if the scent, color, or texture changes.
Benefits of the DIY
- Intense moisture sealing – Petroleum jelly dramatically slows water loss, keeping skin plump and hydrated.
- Collagen support – Rosehip’s natural vitamin A (retinoid precursor) and vitamin C encourage firmer, smoother skin over time.
- Antioxidant protection – Clove oil, vitamin E, and turmeric work together to neutralize free radicals that accelerate aging.
- Balanced hydration – Glycerin draws moisture into the skin, while jojoba regulates excess sebum, preventing a greasy feel.
- Softens fine lines – Consistent occlusion combined with antioxidant activity visibly reduces the look of early wrinkles.
- Soothes and calms – Almond oil’s fatty acids and vitamin E ease irritation and improve texture.
- Budget-friendly and beginner-proof – Uses common kitchen or pharmacy ingredients, no special equipment, and costs a fraction of store-bought collagen creams.
