Elliot Page Says Hollywood Isn’t Calling After “The Odyssey”—Here’s What He Actually Said

After appearing in one of the biggest films of 2026, Elliot Page might reasonably have expected his phone to start ringing.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey became a worldwide box-office phenomenon, bringing Page back into a major blockbuster alongside performers including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o.

Yet Page says the flood of new acting offers never arrived.

During a September 2026 appearance on On Film… With Kevin McCarthy, the actor was asked whether the success of The Odyssey had resulted in new opportunities. Page responded that he was not receiving the expected calls and publicly invited filmmakers to contact him.

The exchange quickly became entertainment news. Social media graphics summarized it with claims that Page had received “no role offers” despite the film’s enormous success and believed being transgender had made Hollywood reluctant to cast him.

The central claim is accurate: Page said he had nothing lined up and wanted to continue acting.

However, the viral wording requires an important distinction.

Page did not deliver a formal statement declaring that Hollywood was refusing to hire him because he is transgender. Nor did he use the exact phrase “Hollywood still needs to adapt.” Those are interpretations of a more nuanced—and partly humorous—conversation.

The truth is less absolute than the meme, but no less revealing.

What Elliot Page actually said

Interviewer Kevin McCarthy suggested that Page must be receiving numerous calls following his performance in The Odyssey.

Page corrected him.

He said he was not getting those calls and added, “If someone wants to call me,” making it clear that the absence of work was not the result of a planned break from acting.

When the conversation touched on why casting had become difficult, Page jokingly attributed the problem to being Canadian. The joke was widely understood as a light way of referring to his position as an openly transgender actor.

Page also explained that the industry had previously viewed him in a particular way and that this perception was now different. He suggested that he might have to reach out to potential collaborators or help create projects rather than wait for conventional casting offers.

He did not sound finished with acting.

On the contrary, Page said he believed he might be capable of doing some of his strongest work at this stage of his life.

That part of the interview is frequently missing from the viral headline.

The story is not simply that a successful actor has been rejected. It is also that Page feels more personally present and creatively available than he did during earlier phases of his career.

What the viral image gets right

The graphic accurately communicates several basic facts.

Page appeared in The Odyssey. The movie became a major commercial success. At the time of the interview, Page said he had not received a new acting role and had no future project ready to announce.

Page also connected the difficulty of being cast with the fact that the industry views him differently than it did before his transition.

Those points are supported by the interview and by coverage from multiple entertainment publications.

Page was not merely saying that he had not yet signed a contract. His remarks indicated a broader frustration with the lack of incoming opportunities.

The image is therefore not based on a completely fabricated quotation or invented interview.
