Vivian Wilson, the estranged daughter of tech mogul Elon Musk, has once again spoken out about life after severing ties with her world-famous father. In a rare and unfiltered message, she shed light on her personal struggles, her independence, and the rea
Vivian Wilson, formerly known as Xavier, has long been open about her decision to distance herself from her father. The turning point came after she transitioned as a teenager, a move that coincided with growing personal and ideological conflicts between her and Musk.

Before the estrangement, Vivian attended a school in Bel-Air before transferring to Ad Astra, the private school Musk created for the children of SpaceX employees. Musk launched the institution because he disagreed with how traditional schools were being run, preferring a curriculum that emphasized STEM subjects and eliminated conventional grading.
However, Vivian later moved to Crossroads School in Santa Monica, a place often described as a hub for Hollywood’s so-called “nepo babies.” In a recent interview, she admitted that she never quite fit in: “I was not popular, I didn’t talk to anyone.”
A Bold Break from the Musk Legacy
Vivian came out as transgender at 16, but the tension with her father deepened after she turned 18 in 2022. At that time, she legally petitioned to change both her name and gender marker. In the filing, she delivered a striking declaration: “I no longer live or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”

The situation worsened when Musk, while publicly campaigning alongside conservative figures, claimed that his daughter had been “k:illed by the woke mind virus.” Vivian wasted no time clapping back online, reminding him—and the world—that she was very much alive.

Life in Los Angeles Without a Billionaire’s Inheritance
Now living in Los Angeles, Vivian has opened up about her current lifestyle, which stands in stark contrast to her father’s unimaginable $413 billion net worth. Despite public assumptions, she receives no financial assistance from Musk.
“College is expensive, I don’t have that inheritance,” she explained. “People assume I have a lot of money, but I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal.”

Instead, Vivian shares an apartment with three roommates to cut costs, describing her situation as “cheaper and more realistic.” While she admits to occasional financial stress, she also recognizes her relative privilege compared to many people her age in Los Angeles: “I can afford food. I have friends, shelter, and some expendable income. That’s more than what a lot of people my age here can say.”
Her attitude toward wealth stands in sharp contrast to Musk’s relentless pursuit of success. “I don’t have any desire to be super rich,” she noted, adding that she values stability and personal happiness far more than extravagant luxuries.

Looking Ahead: A Future on Her Own Terms
Despite the rift, Vivian is focused on building a life defined by her own choices. She previously studied Japanese abroad but left the program and now hopes to re-enroll in community college to pursue language studies.
While she acknowledges that her mother is financially comfortable, she draws a clear line between that and the astronomical wealth of her father: “My mom is rich, right? But the other one is unimaginable degrees of wealthy.”
At just 20, Vivian is carving out her own future—one built not on Musk’s billions, but on her independence, resilience, and a determination to define her own identity.
