It Turns Out Rice Weevils Fear This the Most — Put a Little in Your Rice Bag and You Won’t Worry About Pests for a Whole Year

Rice weevils are tiny insects that reproduce incredibly fast. When the weather warms up, their eggs hatch easily, causing your rice to spoil quickly and giving it an unpleasant smell. So what should you do when you find weevils in your rice? The solution is actually very simple. Just add one little thing to the rice bag, and you can keep it pest-free for months. Today, I’ll share two super effective tricks to stop rice weevils from growing. Let’s take a look!

1. The Scent Method

Rice weevils are extremely sensitive to strong smells. You can take advantage of this using very common ingredients:

  • a few cloves of garlic,

  • some star anise,

  • a bit of pepper,

  • and a clean disposable mask.

How to do it:

  1. Cut one end of the disposable mask.

  2. Put the garlic and spices inside.

  3. Tie it tightly using the mask’s strap.

  4. Place this little sachet inside your rice container or bag.

The strong aroma from the garlic and spices will repel the weevils and keep them away, helping your rice stay fresh longer with a completely natural, safe method.

2. The Freezing Method

Rice often has weevil eggs hidden inside it from the beginning. These eggs hatch when the temperature rises. To stop this process entirely, simply:

  1. Put the rice into a plastic bag and seal it tightly.

  2. Place the bag of rice in the freezer for 48 hours.

Low temperatures kill both the eggs and the larvae, effectively preventing future infestations. This is an incredibly useful method for long-term rice storage while keeping the flavor and quality intact.

With these two simple but highly effective tricks, you can keep your rice fresh all year without worrying about pests. It’s safe, cheap, and easy enough for anyone to do at home.
