Mattresses used for a long time are dirty and smelly, sprinkle this on the surface, no need to wash with water, it will be clean as new

How to Clean Your Mattress at Home Effectively
Over time, mattresses accumulate dust, sweat, dead skin cells, and even bacteria, which can create unpleasant odors and an unhealthy sleeping environment. Simply changing your bed sheets or pillowcases isn’t enough—your mattress itself also needs care. While some people bring their mattresses outside to air them under the sun, this method only kills some surface bacteria and doesn’t completely remove deep-seated dirt. Fortunately, with a few simple steps, you can clean your mattress at home and keep it fresh for longer.
1. Change Bedding Regularly
To maintain a hygienic sleeping space, you should frequently wash and replace your bed sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers, and mattress protectors. Fresh bedding prevents dirt, sweat, and body oils from penetrating deep into the mattress and makes overall cleaning much easier.
Extra tip: Consider using a mattress protector made of waterproof or hypoallergenic fabric. This adds a protective barrier that reduces stains and keeps dust mites away.
2. Vacuum the Mattress Surface
Whenever you change the bedding, take the time to vacuum the mattress thoroughly. Focus not only on the flat surface but also on seams, crevices, and stitching lines where dust and debris tend to accumulate.
If you don’t own a vacuum cleaner, you can use a soft brush or a handheld duster. However, a vacuum is far more efficient and saves you time and effort.
3. Treat Stains Promptly

For common stains, prepare a mild cleaning solution by mixing a small amount of dishwashing liquid with clean water and pouring it into a spray bottle. Spray directly onto the stain, let it sit for 5–10 minutes, then blot repeatedly with a clean cloth until the stain and excess liquid are absorbed.
For stubborn or set-in stains, hydrogen peroxide can be very effective. Apply a small amount to the affected area, but test on a hidden section first to ensure it doesn’t discolor your fabric.
Extra tip: Always avoid soaking your mattress. Too much moisture can lead to mold growth deep inside the foam or padding.
4. Use Baking Soda to Deodorize

Baking soda is excellent at absorbing moisture and neutralizing odors. Sprinkle a generous layer across the entire mattress surface and leave it for several hours—or overnight for best results. During this time, the baking soda will absorb excess sweat, oils, and unpleasant smells.
Afterward, vacuum thoroughly to remove all traces of baking soda. Don’t forget to flip the mattress and repeat the same process on the other side for a complete refresh.
5. Regular Maintenance
For long-term care, clean your mattress every 3–6 months. If you don’t use it for an extended period, wrap it securely in a specialized plastic mattress bag to prevent dust, dirt, and moisture from settling in.
Extra tip: Rotate your mattress 180 degrees every few months. This not only helps with even wear but also reduces the buildup of dirt and sweat in one spot.
✅ With these simple yet effective steps, your mattress will stay cleaner, fresher, and more comfortable, giving you a healthier and more restful sleep.
