Pregnant Jack Russell Khloe Stole the Internet’s Heart With Her Adorable Maternity Photoshoot
There are countless maternity photographs on the internet: expectant mothers standing in fields at sunset, couples posing beside tiny shoes, families gathering around a growing baby bump, and carefully decorated studios designed to celebrate a new arrival.
But one maternity session managed to stand out for a very different reason.
The mother-to-be had four legs.
Her name was Khloe, an adorable Jack Russell terrier from Kentucky, and when she was preparing to welcome her first litter of puppies, her owner decided that such an important moment deserved more than an ordinary photograph.
Khloe was going to have a maternity photoshoot of her own.
What began as a playful and affectionate way of announcing the dog's pregnancy to friends and family eventually became something much bigger. The elaborate pink-themed photographs spread across social media, where thousands of people discovered a very proud-looking little dog surrounded by flowers, blankets, ribbons and other decorations more commonly associated with human maternity portraits.
The photographs originally attracted widespread attention in February 2021. Years later, they began circulating again, introducing Khloe and her unusually glamorous pregnancy announcement to an entirely new audience. Contemporary coverage from 2021 and later reporting on the renewed viral attention confirm that the images are not from a new 2026 photoshoot, but rather a much-loved internet moment being rediscovered.
And perhaps that is part of the charm of Khloe's story.
Some internet moments disappear almost immediately.
Others somehow remain adorable no matter how many years have passed.
A Very Special Pregnancy Announcement
Khloe belonged to animal photographer Caitlin Snyman, who was living in Kentucky when the photographs were taken.
For Snyman, Khloe wasn't simply an animal who happened to live in the house. She was an important member of the family and was already accustomed to being in front of a camera.
PetPress reported in February 2021 that Khloe enjoyed posing and performing tricks when Snyman photographed her. That experience made the little terrier an unusually cooperative model when it was time for her most memorable session.
When Snyman learned that Khloe was expecting her first litter, she began thinking about how she could announce the news.
She could have taken a simple photograph.
She could have posted a picture of Khloe with a short message saying that puppies were on the way.
Instead, she decided to turn the pregnancy announcement into an event.
Snyman later explained that she wanted to do something elaborate because of Khloe's personality and because she regarded the dog almost like her own child. The goal was initially quite modest: create something memorable and share the happy news with friends and family.
The resulting photographs, however, looked anything but modest.
Khloe received the full maternity-portrait treatment.
Pink became the dominant color of the shoot. Flowers surrounded the expectant mother. Soft blankets created a comfortable setting. Decorative ribbons and carefully arranged props completed the scene.
Rather than looking confused by all the attention, Khloe seemed perfectly comfortable in front of the camera.
In some photographs she sat upright, her pregnant belly clearly visible. In others she relaxed among the soft decorations. The carefully staged images resembled the maternity portraits human parents often commission before welcoming a baby.
Except, of course, this particular mother was a Jack Russell terrier.
Three Hours in Front of the Camera
Creating photographs that look effortless often requires considerably more work behind the scenes.
Reports about Khloe's session indicate that the photoshoot lasted around three hours.
That is a long session even for many human subjects, let alone a small dog.
Yet Khloe's previous experience posing for her photographer owner apparently helped.
Coverage from the time described her as comfortable with modeling, and the final images certainly gave that impression. She looked remarkably composed while surrounded by the elaborate pink setting.
Another report published in February 2021 said Khloe made it through the lengthy session with the assistance of treats — a much more understandable form of payment for a canine model.
The timing was also intentional.
Snyman wanted the photographs to capture Khloe late enough in her pregnancy for her belly to be clearly visible. That meant planning the session close enough to the expected arrival of the puppies to produce the classic maternity-photo look.
