She got into the car and left.
The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the quiet street as a sleek, expensive car pulled to a stop in front of a grand, luxurious mansion. Inside the vehicle sat a wealthy young man named Julian and his girlfriend, Elena.
As soon as the car door opened, Elena hopped out, her eyes widening with delight. She stared up at the imposing stone pillars and the manicured gardens of the mansion, breathless with excitement. She turned to Julian, a wide grin on her face.
"Are we going to live here?" she exclaimed, clapping her hands. "It’s absolutely amazing! I can’t believe it!"
Julian offered a soft, gentle smile. He didn’t look at the mansion, however. Instead, he pointed to a small, humble cottage squeezed right next to the grand estate. "No, Elena. Not there," he said calmly. "We are going to live here, in that house, with my parents."
At that precise moment, the front door of the modest cottage creaked open. An elderly man and woman—Julian’s parents—stepped out onto the porch, their faces lighting up with warm, welcoming smiles at the sight of their son.
Elena’s expression shifted instantly. The excitement drained from her face, replaced by a look of sharp disdain. She looked from the elderly couple to the small house, and then back to Julian, her eyes narrowing.
"I’m breaking up with you!" she shouted, her voice cutting through the evening air. "You don’t deserve me. Do you really think I’m going to waste my youth living in a shack with these old people?"
Julian stood frozen, his eyes wide with shock. "Why?" he managed to ask, his voice barely a whisper. "What does it matter where we live as long as we are together?"
"It matters everything," she replied coldly, not even looking at his parents. She turned on her heel, climbed back into the car, and sped away, leaving a cloud of dust in her wake.
Silence returned to the street. A few seconds later, a man in a sharp black suit—a bodyguard—stepped out from the entrance of the luxurious mansion. He walked over to Julian, his expression neutral.
"Sir," the bodyguard asked, looking at the retreating car and then at the young man, "what are you going to do now?"
