The One Show’s Alex Jones in tears as she makes emotional announcement: ‘We are all so proud of you
The One Show presenter Alex Jones was left visibly emotional on last night’s episode (November 12), which featured one of the most moving segments in the programme’s annual lead-up to BBC Children in Need. As the charity’s appeal night approaches on Friday (November 14), the show has been spotlighting its remarkable Challenge Squad—four young people who have received support through Children in Need funding and are now taking on extraordinary physical and personal challenges to raise money for the cause.
Last night’s focus was on Lloyd, a 21-year-old sports enthusiast born with Down syndrome. Lloyd has become a standout figure within this year’s fundraising lineup thanks to his fierce determination, positive spirit, and unshakeable work ethic. For his challenge, he committed to completing a demanding triathlon that would test even seasoned athletes: swimming 30 lengths in an Olympic-sized pool, cycling 40 kilometres—despite having learned to ride a bike only two months earlier—and finishing with a 10-kilometre run.

When the segment documenting Lloyd’s journey aired, the studio atmosphere shifted. Alex Jones, already emotional while watching the footage, struggled to contain her tears. Turning to Lloyd with heartfelt admiration, she said: “I have to say, everybody in this room, all the team here at The One Show, everybody at Children in Need—we are all so proud of you.” The studio crew and audience were clearly moved, with Alex briefly pausing to compose herself before continuing.
She then announced an extraordinary milestone: the Challenge Squad has raised over £1,100,000 so far, a testament to the powerful impact of their efforts and the generosity inspired by their stories.

Viewers of The One Show React: ‘I Was in Tears’
The emotional moment resonated deeply with viewers at home, many of whom took to social media to share how touched they were by Lloyd’s achievement. One viewer wrote: “Don’t know what to say about this episode. That was a special episode. Lloyd is just an impressive, inspiring individual. I was in massive tears watching this. He is such an amazing young man behind the spotlight of talent.”
Another added: “Lloyd, you’re amazing. We were all a bit of Alex, I think!” echoing how widely the presenter’s emotional reaction was shared by the public.
A third person commented: “What an amazing young man Lloyd is. I was in tears tonight after following the last three days of his incredible challenge.”
Someone else wrote: “A huge congratulations to Lloyd, what an amazing young man—brought tears to my eyes.”
As The One Show continues its coverage leading up to Children in Need, Lloyd’s story has quickly become one of the most talked-about and uplifting moments of the year, reflecting the charity’s mission to champion young people facing obstacles—and to celebrate the strength, resilience, and determination they demonstrate every day.
