TikTok Star Girlalala Dies

TikTok star Maurice Harrison, known online by the handle Girlalala, tragically passed away at the age of 21 on November 14.

According to a statement from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, authorities in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, responded to a medical emergency call around 7 p.m. that evening. Upon arrival, they discovered Harrison, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, in the front passenger seat of a vehicle. The victim, later identified as Maurice Harrison, was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Harrison, a hairstylist from Pompano Beach, Florida, had built a substantial following on TikTok, with over 235,000 followers, as reported by NBC Miami. His TikTok page, however, has since been deactivated. He also had an active Instagram account with more than 41,000 followers at the time of his passing.

The suspect in this case, Shanoyd Whyte Jr., was arrested on the same day, November 14, and charged with first-degree murder with a firearm. He is currently being held without bond, according to arrest records obtained by PEOPLE.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported that, according to detectives, Whyte Jr. and Harrison had been involved in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation inside Whyte Jr.’s vehicle. Whyte Jr. later informed investigators that he and Harrison had been in a relationship for several years. The situation ultimately ended with Harrison being shot while seated in the car.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help with Harrison’s funeral expenses. As of now, the campaign has raised over $28,000, with rapper JT contributing $13,500. On Instagram, JT posted an emotional tribute, saying, "Rest beautiful girlala! We love you & Heaven will never be boring now that you are there, your boldness, energy, humor & beauty will be missed! You never missed a chance to show me love & for that I’m forever grateful." She also expressed her sorrow over the tragic incident, saying, “I’m sorry this happened to you!” JT included the hashtags #protecttranswomen and #protectblackwomen, calling on her followers to support feminism and the protection of women in all forms.

The GoFundMe page has shared a message from Harrison’s family, which expresses gratitude for the outpouring of support, including prayers, kind thoughts, and donations during this difficult time. The page also mentions that more information regarding how to contribute to the funeral home will be shared once the family finalizes the arrangements.

This heartbreaking loss has deeply affected both Harrison’s followers and the broader community, highlighting the importance of support and solidarity in moments of tragedy. Maurice Harrison’s vibrant personality and presence will surely be missed by all who knew him, both online and in person.
