Alison Hammond reveals 15 year long feud with 'very rude' I'm A Celebrity star

Alison Hammond has reignited one of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’s longest-running feuds — and she didn’t hold back. Appearing on ITV’s spinoff programme I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked following Sunday night’s series premiere, the This Morning presenter blasted a former campmate she described as “very rude”: Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder (ITV News).

Hammond, now 50, reflected on her own jungle experience during the 2010 series, recalling the tense atmosphere the moment she entered camp.

“I’ll never forget it,” she said. “I walked in and said, ‘The party’s here!’ with my Terry’s Chocolate Orange — and everyone looked so unbothered. Shaun Ryder hated my guts straight away. He was very rude!”

With a laugh — but clearly still irritated — Alison added, “So hopefully there are no Shaun Ryders in there this year.”

Her fellow panellist, comedian Leigh Francis, immediately jumped in to defend the singer, insisting, “He’s normally really lovely.” But Alison wasn’t buying it, shaking her head firmly in disagreement.

Francis wondered whether Shaun’s attitude in 2010 might have been linked to the traumatic moment he was bitten by a snake during a Bushtucker Trial — a terrifying episode in which the reptile clamped its jaws onto his hand, an incident that made national headlines (BBC News).

But Alison shot that down. “No, no. He took a dislike to me as soon as I went in there. It happens,” she shrugged.

A Feud Dating Back More Than a Decade

Their long-running tension began the moment Alison arrived in camp. Footage from the 2010 series shows Ryder reacting with immediate irritation:

“Oh, more f*ing people in the camp,” he groaned in the Bush Telegraph. “And a loud person and a cheery person as well.” He added — in classic Shaun style — that while Alison was “probably a really nice person,” he compared her presence to something unpleasant: “I like horse st in the country, but I don’t want it in my living room.” (Daily Mail)

Ryder, then 48, complained endlessly about socialising and even threatened to walk out of the jungle: “I’m about that far from f***ing off.”

Despite his grumbling, he stayed all the way to the final, finishing runner-up to Stacey Solomon, while Alison was the fourth celebrity voted out that season (The Guardian).

The Feud Continued Beyond the Jungle

The pair later met again on Dancing on Ice, where Alison bluntly confronted him:
“I never liked you. From the first minute I met you and spoke to you, I never liked you.”

Shaun’s reply was equally blunt: “I know!”

In a later interview, Ryder told the Daily Star that Alison’s dislike was obvious from day one:
“Ever since the jungle show, I knew Alison didn’t like me. But fair enough — nobody has to like each other. It’s not against the law.”

He added that when they met again on Dancing on Ice, “I was proved right.”

Ryder Still Wants Nothing to Do With Her

In more recent years, Shaun has said he would consider returning for I’m A Celebrity All Stars — but he made one condition very clear: Alison cannot be there.

Speaking to press, Ryder said the toughest part of the original experience was the long-haul flight and spending time with “a bunch of fing lovelies and spoilt motherfers,” though he admitted he “pretty much liked everybody.” But he also insisted he “definitely wouldn’t want to be reunited with Alison.” (Digital Spy)

Old Wounds, New Laughs

Alison’s latest comments have once again put their decade-long feud in the spotlight. Though her tone was playful, her irritation remains unmistakably genuine — and fans of the show are now wondering whether the drama between Alison and Shaun will ever truly be put to rest.

If I’m A Celebrity ever does bring them together again, ITV may as well prepare the cameras: sparks would fly… and probably very quickly.
