Emmerdale star Bradley Riches shares lengthy social media message as he celebrates soap achievement
Emmerdale newcomer Bradley Riches has marked a major milestone on the soap, celebrating six months on screen as fan favourite Lewis Barton. The actor, who joined the ITV drama earlier this year, has quickly become one of the show's most talked-about additions — both for his compelling storylines and his historic place in the show’s legacy (Radio Times).
Since debuting in the village, Lewis has been at the centre of several emotionally charged plotlines, and viewers have already seen glimpses of even bigger drama ahead. Most recently, a shocking twist revealed that Kev is secretly his biological father, setting up what many expect to be a major storyline in the months to come (Digital Spy).
“Representation matters” — Bradley Riches reflects on six months in Emmerdale
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Bradley opened up about what the past half-year has meant to him personally and professionally. Posting several behind-the-scenes photos from set, he thanked fans for their overwhelming support and spoke candidly about the honour of portraying Emmerdale’s first autistic character — a role that has drawn praise from both viewers and advocacy groups (BBC Entertainment).
He wrote:
“Six months of Lewis Barton. What an incredible journey it has been — stepping into a dream role on Emmerdale, a show I grew up watching. One that has meant so much to me and my family. To be able to join this cast, crew and family still feels unreal, and I am grateful every single day.”
Bradley added:
“Playing the first autistic character on Emmerdale is something I am deeply proud of. Representation matters, and it means the world to hear how Lewis has connected with people, helped them feel seen, or opened up conversations that should have been happening long before now.”
He continued by thanking fans who have reached out with their own stories:
“Thank you to everyone who has supported me, shared their experiences, or taken the time to send a message. It truly keeps me going.”
Reflecting on how far he has come, Bradley wrote:
“I can’t help but think of younger me, who never imagined any of this being possible. And of my grandad, who loved Emmerdale more than anyone I knew. I wish he could see this moment, but I carry him with me every step of the journey. Thank you for an unforgettable six months. Here’s to everything still to come.”
Co-stars share their love and support
Bradley’s post quickly filled with messages from fans and co-stars alike. His fellow actors praised both his performance and his warmth behind the scenes, emphasising how seamlessly he has fitted into the Emmerdale family (Metro UK).

Danny Miller (Aaron Dingle) wrote:
“Beautiful addition to the family. Everyone loves you, my lovely friend. And rightly so!”
Mike Parr, who plays Ross, added humorously:
“My brother from the same mother.”
Meanwhile, Laura Norton (Kerry Wyatt) commented:
“Ray of sunshine.”
Other cast members — including Fred Kettle and Bradley Johnson — also showed their support with likes and reactions.

What’s next for Lewis Barton?
Although Bradley has only been part of the show for six months, it’s clear Emmerdale has big plans for Lewis. Upcoming episodes suggest more emotional twists ahead, including storylines exploring Lewis’s sensory overwhelm and the deepening connection between him and Kev.
According to early Emmerdale spoilers (Digital Spy / ITV Press Office), Lewis becomes overwhelmed during an upcoming housewarming party, and a quiet moment with Kev unexpectedly leads to bonding. But neither knows the truth about their relationship — not yet.
