Look-alike athletes who even share the same name took DNA test to see if they’re actually related

It sounds like the plot of a sports comedy, but it actually happened. Two professional baseball players who looked like mirror images of each other — and even shared the exact same name — decided to take a DNA test to uncover whether fate had made the

Imagine stepping onto the field for a competitive game only to realize the athlete on the other team could be your mirror image. The same height, the same red hair, the same thick ginger beard, and even the same glasses. To make it even stranger, this “twin” has the exact same name as you and plays the same position. It sounds like a Hollywood comedy plot or an elaborate prank, but for two real-life players named Brady Feigl, this was everyday reality.

A Case of Déjà Vu on the Diamond

Both Feigls were professional pitchers in the minor leagues of American baseball. Standing at 6’4”, with nearly identical builds, features, and personalities, they looked like long-lost brothers separated at birth. One was a left-handed pitcher for the Oakland A’s Single-A affiliate, while the other was a right-handed pitcher for the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A team. Aside from their throwing arms, it was nearly impossible to tell them apart at first glance.

Their story first caught national attention when Inside Edition featured them in 2018. Fans immediately flooded social media with speculation, suggesting they had to be related — some even floated the idea that they might secretly be twins. “The week that it hit TV my phone blew up,” one of the Feigls recalled. “I had to put it on airplane mode and just put it away for a while.”

The DNA Test That Shocked Everyone

Curiosity and public pressure led the duo to take a DNA test to settle the mystery once and for all. When the results came in, both players discovered they shared strikingly similar ancestry, with each being 53 percent Germanic European. For a moment, it seemed to confirm what fans had suspected all along.

But when the rest of the data was analyzed, the truth turned out to be even stranger. If the two men had been identical twins, their DNA results would have been nearly identical across all categories. Instead, the smaller details revealed clear differences: one had 10 percent Ireland and Scotland heritage compared to the other’s 2 percent, while one showed a trace of Italian ancestry and the other none at all.

In other words, despite the uncanny resemblance and overlapping lives, the two Bradys were not related by blood in any way.

From Rivals to “Brothers”

While the DNA test proved that the resemblance was pure coincidence, the athletes themselves embraced the bizarre twist of fate. “We’re still brothers in a way, I guess,” one of them said with a laugh. The other quickly added, “And we’re always gonna be Brady Feigl.”

Far from being rivals, the look-alike pitchers developed a strong friendship. What began as a freak coincidence on the baseball field ended with a lifelong bond — one that fans continue to find fascinating and heartwarming.

The Mystery of Doppelgängers

The Brady Feigl story has become a viral example of just how uncanny doppelgängers can be. Psychologists often say humans are hardwired to spot faces, and rare cases of near-identical strangers are bound to fuel curiosity. While they may not share DNA, the Feigls share something arguably just as unique: an unforgettable story that connects them for life.
