Random Act Of Kindness: Young Man Helps Woman Get Home After Her Electric Wheelchair Loses Power
A Georgia Boxer’s Act of Kindness Goes Viral After Helping a Stranded Woman in a Wheelchair
On what began as a normal trip to the gym, 24-year-old amateur boxer Bilal Quintyne of Smyrna, Georgia, noticed something unusual on the side of the road: 67-year-old Belinda Whitaker sitting alone in her motorized wheelchair. Her chair had run out of power, leaving her stranded in the heat for nearly 45 minutes. What happened next would turn Quintyne’s spontaneous act of compassion into a viral moment that captured hearts across the country (Yahoo Lifestyle).

Instead of simply calling for assistance as Whitaker originally requested, Quintyne made a different decision. “She asked if I could call for help, and I said, ‘I’m in good shape. Where is your house? I’ll take you myself,’” he recalled. With temperatures hovering around 90 degrees, he positioned himself behind her wheelchair and began pushing her all the way home — a route that stretched roughly a mile and took nearly half an hour (CBS News).
Quintyne wasn’t alone. His friend, who happened to be nearby, recorded the entire journey. Later, he shared the video on Facebook with a now-famous caption:
“God’s Plan. God’s Work. Her battery gave out and she didn’t know how she was getting home. God blessed me with an able body. So WE pulled her home. A mile or not, I wouldn’t go home until she was home. Period.”
After the long walk, Quintyne learned that Whitaker had simply been on her way to the grocery store when her wheelchair died. He even offered to shop for her, but she politely declined. Overwhelmed with emotion, Whitaker said she had watched many cars pass without stopping, and she could hardly believe that Quintyne had willingly pushed her through the heat with such patience and kindness (AP News).
In the days that followed, Whitaker wanted to thank him properly — but during the emotional moment, she had forgotten to ask his name. By chance, she later ran into Quintyne’s friend who filmed the video and was finally able to reconnect with him.
Their reunion led to something even more meaningful. Quintyne attended Whitaker’s church, where the congregation honored him during the service with a plaque recognizing his selflessness (CBS News). “The pastor said, ‘That’s what it’s about — taking care of your community. Not just talking about God, but practicing what you preach.’”
Inspired to do more, Quintyne launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for a handicap-accessible van for Whitaker, who had recently lost her previous vehicle in an accident. He has continued to stay connected to her, checking in regularly and ensuring she has what she needs.
“I stay in touch with her and I make sure she’s OK,” Quintyne told reporters. “You can’t do wrong doing good, and that’s what it’s about” (CBS News).
This extraordinary act of kindness — a young man pushing a stranger home under the blazing sun without hesitation — has come to symbolize the power of humanity and community. It’s a powerful reminder that compassion doesn’t require grand gestures, only willingness.
