When cleaning the house, add this to the water

A few days ago, a cleaning lady who has worked in this profession for over 30 years taught me a small trick. When you mop the floor this way, it becomes very clean and does not easily attract dust again.

Many people say that after mopping, dust quickly settles back on the floor and unpleasant odors appear. Especially in summer, if the floor isn’t cleaned properly, it creates a distinctive bad smell in every room.

I just recently learned about this great method. A few days ago, that experienced cleaning lady showed me the trick. When you mop the floor this way, it stays spotless and dust-free.

Add this to your mop water and your floor will shine like new — dust-free for a whole week!

The first step before mopping is sweeping. If the floor is dirty, mopping alone won’t make it clean.

Then, add the following items to your bucket of water:

  • Salt: Add a small amount. It helps the floor dry quickly and also acts as a disinfectant.

  • Dish soap: Just a few drops. Dish soap removes oil and grease stains (such as food spills) so the floor gets much cleaner.

  • White vinegar or lemon juice: Helps loosen stubborn dirt and makes mopping easier.

  • Alcohol: Provides disinfection and prevents mold growth.

  • Baking soda: Strong cleaning power and helps eliminate tough stains.

  • Fabric softener (most important): In summer, floors dry quickly and static electricity can build up. When static occurs, dust and dirt easily cling to the surface. Adding fabric softener prevents static, keeping the floor dust-free.

  • Optionally, medicated oil (like menthol oil): Adds fragrance and also repels mosquitoes and insects.

Mix everything well until dissolved. Dip your mop in and clean as usual.
