ChatGPT has shared its analysis of what it considers to be the most 'dangerous' global threat at present, suggesting that a particular ongoing conflict could escalate significantly and potentially trigger World War 3.

While artificial intelligence has demonstrated an uncanny ability to predict future events, even offering bizarre recreations of Nostradamus-style prophecies, it also provides detailed evaluations of current geopolitical situations.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT has argued that U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs might be a key factor contributing to the rise of a major conflict. It also estimates that if World War 3 were to break out today, the death toll could reach between 50 to 100 million people.

In its latest assessment, ChatGPT highlights what it views as the most pressing threats to global stability, drawing attention to ongoing or highly tense conflicts that could spiral into much larger, more destructive events than they initially appear.

The AI's top concern is a potential conflict between the United States and China over Taiwan. Tensions between these two global superpowers have been building for some time, and it’s not difficult to imagine how a dispute could quickly escalate into a more devastating confrontation.

"If China attempts to invade or blockade Taiwan (which it claims as its own), and the U.S. intervenes militarily to defend Taiwan (as it is politically and legally compelled to do), this could trigger a direct U.S.-China war," ChatGPT explains.
 
"It wouldn't be a regional skirmish—it would have the potential to pull in allies, disrupt economies, and lead to a global military conflict."

ChatGPT also pointed to the warning signs that could indicate an impending world war, explaining that the pressure on allied nations to defend an attacked country—in this case, the U.S. coming to Taiwan’s aid—could create a domino effect, drawing other nations into the conflict.

The AI emphasizes the danger of a U.S.-China confrontation, noting that both countries are nuclear powers, and such a conflict would involve immense stakes regarding national pride, global dominance, and major economic consequences.

Beyond the U.S.-China situation, ChatGPT also highlighted other major events that could trigger World War 3, including an escalation between Russia and NATO over Ukraine—a scenario that could change drastically if the United States were to withdraw from NATO—and the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

There are also several potential wildcards, which, while unlikely, could ignite a large-scale war. These include a surprise attack from North Korea on South Korea or Japan, an intensification of the India-Pakistan conflict over Kashmir, AI-controlled military systems malfunctioning, or a miscommunication leading to an accidental attack.
