Ch!lling simulation shows what actually happens to your body when you d!e

A chilling simulation has revealed the disturbing process that occurs when a person dies.

If you've ever wondered how a body eventually turns from flesh and blood into skeletal remains, morbid simulation expert @Zackdfilms on YouTube has the grim details for you.

The YouTuber explains that the process begins almost immediately after death, with blood pooling in the parts of the body closest to the ground within 24 hours.

In Zack's example of a body lying on its back in a casket, the simulation shows how the deceased develops purple and red patches on the skin where blood has settled, particularly at the back of the head where it touches the coffin. Next, bacteria and enzymes begin breaking down the internal organs, starting with those in the abdomen, as shown in the simulation.

This process releases gases, causing the body to bloat.

Within just a few weeks, all of the body's internal organs begin to decompose, and the soft tissue, including the eyeballs, liquefies. The simulation describes how, "after a few weeks, all of the organs and soft tissue, including your eyes, liquefy, and your skin starts to peel away."

The horrifying simulation goes on to show in detail how the eyeballs turn to liquid and 'melt away.'

However, it’s not the case that a body turns to bone in just a few months. The YouTuber explains that full decomposition can take years.

"Over the course of several years, your remaining tissue continues to decay," the video says. "Eventually, only the skeleton remains." Daniel Wescott, director of the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University, explained to Live Science that a body buried in a coffin begins to break down within 12 months but can take up to a decade to fully decompose and become a skeleton.

Insects and environmental factors also contribute to the process. Nicholas Passalacqua, an associate professor at the Forensic Osteology Research Station at Western Carolina University, added that a body buried without a coffin or exposed to the elements can become skeletonized in as little as five years.

According to the news outlet, decomposition begins almost immediately once oxygenated blood stops circulating. Without oxygen, the organs start to deteriorate, turning the body green within about 18 hours. At the same time, bacteria in the abdomen work quickly, causing bloating and an unpleasant odor.

Green-black blood vessels become visible through the skin within 24 to 48 hours.

A hot climate can speed up the decomposition process, which is why human remains are often kept refrigerated until burial.

As bloating subsides, the body’s organs and tissues soften, allowing insects and microbes to consume the remains, leaving behind only the skeleton.
