If You Have Cabinets Above Your Fridge, Here’s What They’re Actually For

A well-organized, neat home where everything has its place can make a huge difference in daily life. If you're anything like me, clutter or misplaced items can make it hard to concentrate and feel at ease.

However, I wasn’t always this organized. Growing up, I didn’t focus as much on tidying up—probably because my mom always kept the house looking immaculate.

I owe her a great deal for that and for teaching me countless tips and tricks, including how to make the most of those small cabinets often found above the refrigerator. At first glance, these cabinets may seem impractical. They’re usually too small for everyday items, and reaching up for dishes or glasses can be inconvenient. So, what can you use them for?

Here are some suggestions:

1. Storage for Infrequent Kitchen Appliances:

Although these cabinets aren't suitable for items you use daily, they’re perfect for storing appliances used occasionally, like food processors, blenders, or waffle makers.

2. Canned Goods and Baking Ingredients:

Canned goods and baking supplies, which typically have a long shelf life, can be stored here since they don’t need frequent access.

3. Cookbooks:

If you have cookbooks cluttering your kitchen, the cabinets above the fridge are a great place to store them out of the way.

4. Pantry Staples and Spices:

If your main pantry is overcrowded, these cabinets are ideal for storing pantry staples and spices. A small spice rack could help keep everything organized.

5. Kitchen Towels:

For those who buy kitchen towels in bulk, this space can be a convenient place to keep them neatly stored.

6. Special Occasion Tableware:

Use these cabinets to store fine china or other special dishes that are out of children's reach and reserved for holidays or special occasions.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind:

When using these cabinets, be cautious with heavier items, and always use a stable step stool or ladder to reach them. Also, remember that the heat from the fridge can make this area unsuitable for certain items.

With these suggestions, you can turn those often-overlooked cabinets into a practical storage solution!
