Jamie Laing admits ‘I’m really scared’ as he shares baby update

Jamie Laing is feeling a mixture of excitement and fear as he prepares to welcome his first child with wife Sophie Habboo. The Made in Chelsea star, 36, has been unusually candid about his emotions surrounding impending fatherhood, admitting, “I’m really scared,” during a new appearance on ITV’s This Morning.

Laing first shared the baby news back in June through an emotional Instagram post, announcing the next chapter in his life with Habboo, whom he began dating in 2019 before the pair married in 2023. Their tight-knit fanbase celebrated the milestone, but Jamie has continued to be honest about just how overwhelming the transition into parenthood feels for him.

On November 17, Jamie joined hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard to promote his new book, Boys Don’t Cry, which chronicles his long-hidden struggle with bulimia and explores the pressures men face when dealing with emotional vulnerability. He was accompanied by his close friend Sam Thompson, who has been one of the biggest champions of Jamie’s journey toward openness and recovery.

Cat Deeley immediately highlighted the supportive bond between the two men, joking that Jamie already had a built-in babysitter. Sam, however, comically rejected the idea, exclaiming, “He would never. He would never.” The trio burst into laughter as Jamie teased, “Do you think I’m going to leave my baby with him?” Cat pushed back, noting Sam’s experience helping with his sister’s children, insisting he deserved a chance.

As the conversation shifted back to Jamie’s book, Ben Shephard pointed out that he had written it with his future child in mind. Curious about Jamie’s current mindset, Ben asked how he felt knowing the baby could arrive any day. Jamie grew serious, admitting, “I’m really scared. It’s so intense.” He added that he had recently retaken and passed his driving test — for the second time — after previously losing his license for speeding. “You don’t need a licence to have a baby, but you need a licence to drive a car,” he said with a laugh, highlighting how surreal the preparations felt.LONDON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 28: Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo attend "The Roses" UK Premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on August 28, 2025 in London, England. In a sweet moment, Ben revealed that the show had a special gift for the soon-to-arrive little one. Jamie looked stunned as Sam proudly held up a tiny white This Morning baby grow. Sam, overflowing with excitement, announced, “It’s a little This Morning baby grow. I love This Morning and you’re part of the family.” He then turned heartfelt, telling Jamie, “Listening to you speak about what you’re going through, you’re going to help so many people.”

Jamie — visibly touched — listened as Sam added, “You’re one of the loveliest people I know, and I really do mean that. Enjoy this because I know it’s going to be the first thing you put on.”

With fatherhood quickly approaching, fans praised Jamie for being so open about his fears and for using his platform to talk about men’s mental health. Between his new book, his supportive circle of friends, and the overwhelming love for his growing family, Jamie appears to be stepping into this next chapter with both vulnerability and courage.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10 a.m. on ITV1 and ITVX.
